🏗️ WCU Demolishes Homes as Sykes Expansion Plans Move Forward

West Chester University has demolished two early-20th-century homes along Rosedale Avenue as part of its long-term campus revitalization plans.

The newly cleared site is slated for a possible administrative building and future Welcome Center, as well as a planned expansion of the Sykes Student Union, according to the University’s Campus Master Plan. The new square footage will provide more space for dining, events, student organizations, and administrative services. Neighboring McKelvie Hall and Messikomer Hall are also slated for demolition. Not all of the land will be developed. Some is expected to remain open space, including plans for a new plaza area.
Additional details on the project timeline are expected later this winter.

Dear Brothers, Little Sisters and Friends,

I hope this letter finds you well and poised for a fantastic 2025. I am reaching out to you today on behalf of our beloved Theta Chi. As you know, the bonds we share within our brotherhood are strong, and we take care of one another through life’s challenges by extending a helping hand.

Sadly, our brother and past chapter President Gregg Rooney continues to face a medical crisis that has changed his life in profound ways. Gregg has literally had dozens of procedures and underwent a leg amputation due to a lengthy bout with a rare condition known as RSD. This has been an incredibly difficult time for him and his family, physically, emotionally, and financially. As a result, he is in urgent need of support to cover the cost of a new and more modern wheelchair that is custom fit for his particular needs. There is no cure or recovery for RSD, just the hope of better comfort and mobility.

We are reaching out to our fraternity brothers, little sisters and friends, to help Gregg in his time of need. Any contribution, no matter how large or small, will have a direct and positive impact on his journey. Funds raised will go toward an updated wheelchair only which will cost in the neighborhood of $5,000.00 all in.

We know that the strength of a brotherhood is measured not only in good times but also in the times when we lift each other up. This is our opportunity to stand by Gregg as he faces this ongoing challenge with courage. We are asking for your support in any way possible, whether through a financial donation, sharing this message with others who might want to help, or simply offering words of encouragement to our brother.
