In April, we will travel deep into the TIPNIS to bring medical and dental care to children and families living in very remote Indigenous communities, where access to doctors and dentists is extremely limited.

Today begins Oral Health Month.

In the Bolivian Amazon, some families travel by canoe for two days to reach care. Many children live with untreated cavities for years — in pain, missing school, unable to eat comfortably.

Last year during one brigade, we treated 280 painful cavities in just 10 days.

This month, I’m sharing one post per day to show you what oral health access really looks like in remote Indigenous communities.

Beyond the road’s end, healthcare still has to reach people.
In October 2024, our team traveled deep into Bolivia’s TIPNIS—where there are no roads, no reliable electricity, and no access to routine medical or dental care. Reaching these communities meant smoke-grounded flights, days on the river, and adapting constantly just to show up.
What we found were children brushing their teeth for the first time, teenagers already losing permanent teeth, and families eager to learn how to prevent years of pain.
This is why Alliance for Good Health returns again and again.
Because sustainable public health doesn’t happen in one visit.

Alliance for Good Health during the month of August 2024 has been working with the indigenous communities of Carmen Soledad and Puerto Yumani, Beni, Bolivia bring training sessions for health promoters, young peer educators, and mother of children under 5 on dental health, prevention of cavities, and improved nutrition. We have created a group of well trained individuals who will train members of their communities making the process sustainable.
