Join us for a road trip to FGC! Through the generosity of IYMC, we are able to subsidize a portion of the registration, lodging, and meals for this event. Two Scattergood staff members will be attending and will also serve as our drivers for this road trip.

Participants will carpool to the conference using a Scattergood vehicle. Burlington, VT is about 18 hours away from SFS so there is plenty of time for storytelling and sharing, group singing, and road trip games! Register by June 1st to join us.

Congratulations team! We are so proud of Julian ‘26, who has been a member of the SFS community since middle school and has balanced his Scattergood education and athletics at West Branch with great success. We are so grateful for his contributions to our school community and wish him well at college in the fall!

A big thanks to Drew Cameron at Combat Paper for spending the day with our May Term class, Nonviolent Direct Action. Students learned about the importance and impact of art as a form of resistance and protest and heard from Drew about the inspiring and powerful work he creates by transforming military uniforms into paper art pieces. Students learned about the paper making process and how to make and use wheat paste to adhere their own works of art to a project board.

The folks at Zumwalt Acres: A Regenerative Agriculture Community are kindred spirits with Scattergood when it comes to land stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and fostering a future of healthy soil, land, and food based on Jewish values. On this trip students and staff assisted and learned from their team as they supported tree husbandry, mushroom cultivation, and prepared the soil for the spring planting season. They also visited FresherTogether, a Black & LGTBQ+ led organization dedicated to bringing nutritious food and healing relationships with the land to the south Chicago area.

Another update from last week's spring trips! Middle school students spent the week exploring, camping, and canoeing their way through northern Iowa and Wisconsin. The group visited the prehistoric formations at Effigy Mounds National Monument, canoed on the Kickapoo river in Wildcat Mountain State Park, explored the painted caves of Wyalusing State Park, and ended their trip at Spook Cave and Campground. What a week!

Scattergood's 6th-11th graders spent last week away from campus on some very cool adventures! While the destinations of annual spring trips week vary, the goal is always the same, explore new and challenging environments, to work together to build community, and to have fun!

Here are some highlights from one trip that spent the week in Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park in Utah. They spent their days hiking through narrow canyons, hoodoo rock formations, and past arches and ancient petroglyphs.

Scattergood is excited to be hosting a comedy workshop on May 30th for youth in 6th-8th grades!

Long Form Improv is an art form that has been in development for nearly a century. It offers people the opportunity to step into their imagination and to bring that imagination to life. Through a structured approach to play, with a focus on listening, responding and agreeing, students will learn how to build and inhabit worlds and characters together.

This weekend's performance of RENT was absolutely phenomenal! High school students gave their all and then some as they sang and danced through this iconic musical. Thank you to the students and staff involved both on set and behind the scenes. We could not be more proud of all their hard work, growth, and camaraderie. Bravo! 👏👏👏
