During the first year of Covid shutdown, I began a Facebook practice called "Tea at Three". I am happy to say that this segment is returning daily beginning February 1. I will primarily be posting through the nonprofit Peculiar Pilgrimage. Tea at Three is a moment to pause, to pray, meditate, encourage, and support each other and all others out there trying to be loving, just humans. I will be live on Facebook during these segments, hopefully you can tune in and take a short 5 minutes to replenish and re-ignite your sacred spark within.
Today in celebration, a little preview...
Today I enjoyed Smoky Vanilla Breakfast Tea from the August Tea Company.
Tastes like: vanilla custard, shortbread cookie, burnt toast
Feels like: morning in a grand hotel
Today we pray for all those who work in hotels -- grand, or not so grand, who make it possible for others to have somewhere to stay on their travels, or in an emergency. I want to pray for all workers who are not paid a living wage, for those who are excluded -- from benefits, from covid relief, or from even making a meager $7.25 because their employer doesn't require them to declare their insubstantial tips. Stop for a minute today, savor what you have, and take a moment to acknowledge all of the workers everywhere who make your way of living possible. Take a moment and think of one small action you could take to acknowledge their work and our benefit.
Also, please know that I receive no sponsorship/endorsement money from any tea company. It's just me and my tea. I also research my tea carefully, looking at each company and how they operate. (If you know something about a tea I post, please share!)
I also acknowledge my privilege in coming to this space: I am in a warm, safe home. I have a huge assortment of tea, I have a computer and wi-fi at my literal fingertips, and so much more. It is my hope that Tea at Three will be an act that models Jesus in these ways: we are about the work of justice and fairness for all people and the more than human creatures on our planet; AND we know that to sustain this work, we must also pause, reflect, connect, pray and care for ourselves. All those who participate in Tea at Three will be supported, encouraged, and yes, "nudged" to be about the self-care AND the work. Thanks for listening!
