The last week in May was an incredible week of exploring, learning, and creating with our community!

We hit the trails at Eagle Pond in Cotuit with the Appalachian Mountain Club, Southeast Mass Chapter for a guided hike and AllTrails tutorial through a beautiful white cedar swamp and around Eagle Pond.

Over in Osterville, ecologist and author Gil Newton delighted all ages with two engaging programs on the surprising world of seaweed, in partnership with the Osterville Village Library.

And at Fuller Farm, artist Mellissa Morris led an unforgettable eARTh Puppet Party — painting, crafting, and wandering the woodlands to bring a 7-foot nature puppet to life. Thank you to Mid-Cape Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council for making this creative collaboration possible!

Gratitude to every partner, volunteer, and participant who showed up and made these programs so special. Thank you to Cape Cod Healthcare for supporting our Hike Barnstable celebration! Visit https://blt.org/hikebarnstable to see what's coming up next!

A big thank-you to the students from Sturgis Charter Public School who chose to spend their Sturgis Day of Service with BLT at Fuller Farm in Marstons Mills last week. Their hard work clearing invasive plants, supporting native garden grounds and meadow restoration, and helping with trail maintenance made a meaningful impact on the property. We’re grateful for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to caring for our local landscapes.

Choose between two guided walks with BLT this Saturday, June 6, in celebration of National Trails Day. Explore the scenic beauty of Mill Pond Preserve with BLT Executive Director Janet Milkman, or head to Fuller Farm for a wildflower walk led by Jim Ellis. Both walks are easy to moderate, begin at 10 AM, and offer a wonderful way to connect with the land.

Pre-registration is required. Reserve your spot at https://blt.org/events

Please reserve the date: Janet Milkman of the Barnstable Land Trust will present on Wednesday, June 10th at the Centerville Historical Museum as part of the Eat, Chat and Learn series, for which a $5 donation is requested.

May may be coming to a close, but Hike Barnstable is still going strong through the month of June!

There’s still plenty of time to join Barnstable Land Trust for guided hikes, walks, talks, and outdoor programs designed for all ages and abilities as we continue celebrating Great Outdoors Month.

And don’t forget this year’s special MA250-inspired hiking challenge: complete 17.76 miles during Hike Barnstable to earn a certificate and qualify for a fun gift package!

Thank you to Cape Cod Healthcare for supporting this year’s expanded Hike Barnstable initiative and helping more people connect with Barnstable’s beautiful natural spaces.

Get your hands dirty for a good cause! Join the Barnstable Land Trust this first week of June for two volunteer stewardship opportunities — Weeding Wednesday on June 3 and Fuller Farm Friday on June 5, both from 8–10 AM. Help us pull invasive plants, tend pollinator gardens, and maintain trails at our native landscape gardens and the beloved 22-acre Fuller Farm. No experience needed; just bring your enthusiasm, water, and work gloves.

From exploring Cape Cod's marine life with local ecologist and author Gil Newton, to a bog restoration walk with Barnstable Clean Water Coalition, a members-only bird walk at Fuller Farm, and a lady slipper hunt at Crocker Neck in honor of National Trails Day — it was a full third week of Hike Barnstable.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our partners Whelden Memorial Library, Barnstable Clean Water Coalition, Gil Newton and Cape Cod Healthcare for making these Hike Barnstable programs possible!

Art, nature, and community come together this Saturday at Fuller Farm! Join us for the eARTh Puppet Party, a hands-on workshop where we'll paint, craft, and help bring a 7-foot-tall parade puppet to life in celebration of the natural world. Led by local artist Mellissa Morris, the afternoon also includes a mindful wander through woodland and meadow trails. All ages welcome — come ready to get creative and get a little messy!

The monarch butterfly was back at Centerville Elementary this week! 🦋

BLT’s Director of Programs and Communications, Sue Dahling Sullivan, returned for some after-school fun with first graders, leading a butterfly-themed craft activity while sporting her signature monarch wings. A creative afternoon filled with color, imagination, and a little nature-inspired magic!
