The 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation

The 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation The Foundation is not a religious organization. Its intentions are focused on the preservation of the structure and visibility in the Barnstable community.

The 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation was incorporated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1950 with it's primary endeavor to preserve the 1717 Meetinghouse in the Town of Barnstable as an historical memorial of early America and Americans.

Transport yourself back to the very building in which Shaw grew-up!

Lemuel Shaw was an American jurist who served as chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (1830-1860).

Shaw was born in West Barnstable, Massachusetts, the second son of the Rev. Oakes Shaw and his second wife Susanna.

Oakes Shaw, a Congregationalist minister, was pastor of the West Church in Barnstable for forty-seven years.

Violins return to the 1717 Meetinghouse!

Violent town meetings, particularly during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 periods, would often necessitate major repairs to the 1717 Meetinghouse interior. (Oops; Violins.)

Built contemporary to Bach, and surviving the war of 1812 - contemporary to Paganini - their works for solo violin will take flight in a unique structure contemporary to their composition.

Join us as violonist Ilana Zaks performs a very special concert curated specifically for the 1717 Meetinghouse. Ms. Zaks currently serves on the violin faculty at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

This is a don’t-miss event!
