Last night, MADACC's veterinary staff were in the process of intaking 3 more cats after EVERY cat kennel in the building was already full. There are even portable kennels in the halls that are filled.

Right now, over 250 cats are in MADACC's care.

In the past 5 days alone, 80 cats have come through the doors.

Many of those cats are still on their required stray hold, which means they cannot be made available for adoption yet. Others are recovering from illness or injury, and many kittens are in foster homes waiting to grow big enough to be spayed or neutered.

At the time of this post, 109 cats/kittens are available for adoption. That's 109 kennels that could be opened if we have loving and responsible adopters who can open their homes and hearts.
See all current adoptable cats here: https://24petconnect.com/MADACCAdopt?at=CAT

We desperately need the community's help.

🐱 **Adopt.** Every cat that leaves for a loving home opens a kennel for the next one that will inevitably come through our doors. ❣️ Please be patient with adoption volunteers and staff during this time as it may be very busy. We will be so incredibly grateful to have adopters but we can only move so fast and it is first come first serve. ❣️

🍼 **Foster kittens.** Many kittens still need foster homes until they're old enough to be spayed or neutered.

📣 **Help us spread the word.** Like, comment on, and share this post so we can reach more people who may foster or adopt.

The cats aren't going to stop coming. We need to make space for them.

If you've been considering adopting or fostering, there has rarely been a more important time than now. Every kennel matters.

The 4th of July is upon us. When celebrating our 250th, please take extra care of all pets. Thank you!

🎆🐾 Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be frightening for our pets. 🐾🎆

As we celebrate 250, let's remember that many dogs, cats, and other companion animals experience extreme stress during fireworks displays. A little preparation can make a big difference in keeping them safe and comfortable.

Here are a few simple ways to help:

🏡 Keep pets indoors well before fireworks begin.
🚪 Close windows, doors, and curtains to help reduce noise and flashes.
🛏️ Create a quiet, comfortable space with their favorite bed, blanket, or toys.
🎶 Turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help mask the sounds.
🏷️ Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with current ID tags and that their microchip information is up to date.
❤️ Stay calm and reassure your pet. They often look to you for comfort.
🚫 Never bring pets to fireworks displays. Even well-behaved animals can panic and bolt.

⚠️ Watch for signs of stress, including:
• Excessive panting
• Pacing or restlessness
• Trembling or hiding
• Drooling
• Attempts to escape

If your pet experiences severe anxiety during fireworks, talk with your veterinarian before the holiday about strategies or medications that may help.

Every year, animal shelters see an increase in lost pets following fireworks celebrations. Taking a few extra precautions today can help ensure your best friend stays safe at home tonight.

PLEASE keep your pets happy, healthy and safe!

PLEASE keep your pets happy, healthy and safe!

☀️🐾 Hot weather can turn dangerous for our pets in just minutes. 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, let's do everything we can to keep our four-legged family members safe.

🐶 When walking:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
• Bring plenty of fresh water.
• Stick to grassy areas when possible.
• Test the pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle.
Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can climb to life-threatening levels within minutes.

⚠️ Know the signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting
• Collapse

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer cool (not ice-cold) water if they are alert, and seek veterinary care immediately.

Together, we can help ensure every pet has a safe and enjoyable summer. Please share this post to help spread the word and protect the animals we all love. ❤️🐕🐈

Hug your pups!

On National Rescue Dog Day, we honor every rescue dog who has found a loving home, every foster who opened their heart, every volunteer who stepped up, and every adopter who chose compassion.

Rescue dogs come with stories. Some are funny, some are heartbreaking, and some are still being written. But one thing remains true: when you rescue a dog, you change two lives — theirs and your own.

Thank you to everyone helping homeless pets through adoption, fostering, volunteering, donating, advocating, and simply spreading kindness.

If you have a rescue dog, share their photo and story in the comments. We would love to celebrate them with you. 🐶

Today has gone to the dogs (puppies) :)

Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness, because March 23 is National Puppy Day!

Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a paw-some day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love and fawn over the undeniably cute furballs that bring so much happiness into this world.

While we’re all softies when it comes to our four-legged friends, today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption. Adopt Wisconsin!
