In 1947, the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists (WSA) was chartered by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) as its fourteenth (14th) Component State Society. From an initial handful of members, currently WSA has 540+ Active members, plus a dozen Scientist & 150+ Resident members from the two training centers at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and UW-Madison. Created to provide in

-state CME for anesthesiologists, today the WSA also serves patients, the general public and their elected representatives as the resource on standards of ethical anesthesia care.

Dr. Sylvie Aucoin is an anesthesiologist and Clinician-Investigator in Ottawa, Canada, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She completed anesthesiology residency at Dalhousie University in Halifax, followed by a clinical fellowship in perioperative medicine at University College London Hospitals in the UK, and an MSc in Perioperative Medicine from University College London (2019).

Sherri M. Arrigo has broad litigation experience with a primary focus in the defense of professional negligence and pharmaceutical actions. She has successfully tried dozens of medical and legal malpractice cases to verdict, saving her clients millions of dollars in requested damages.

In 2014, Ms. Arrigo was inducted as a Fellow of The American College of Trial Lawyers. According to its Bylaws, “The College’s Fellows are chosen strictly by invitation and only after rigorous investigation; Fellowship is limited to 1% of lawyers in any individual State, to those lawyers who have distinguished themselves in trial practice for at least 15 years, not only as skilled trial lawyers who are recognized by judges and practitioners as the very best in their states…, but as persons whose ethics, moral standards, collegiality, and community standing are exemplary.” In 2023, Ms. Arrigo was admitted as a Fellow in the International Society of Barristers.

Ms. Arrigo has been recognized by her peers as one of the Top Ten Women Civil Defense Lawyers in Illinois. She has been elected as an Illinois Leading Lawyer and Illinois Super Lawyer for each of the past many years. In 2018, Ms. Arrigo received an award for Outstanding Defense Verdict in a Medical Malpractice Case from the Jury Verdict Reporter. She also has been honored as The Doctors Company Attorney of the Year. In 2024 she was honored with the JVR Trial Lawyer Excellence Award for Defense Achievement. This prestigious accolade recognizes defense trial lawyers who have consistently achieved minimized damages for the clients in high-profile cases. Ms. Arrigo is a past-President of the Society of Trial Lawyers and previously served on its Board of Directors. The Society of Trial Lawyers is comprised of elite attorneys who demonstrate leadership and make significant contributions to the legal community by delivering outstanding results for clients. Ms. Arrigo also has served on the Board of Directors of Normal Moments, a charitable organization devoted to providing support and services to families of critically ill children.

Dr. Abdelmalak is a professor of anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic, where he spearheads Anesthesia for Bronchoscopy and leads the Anesthesiology oversight for Procedural Sedation and serves as its Quality Improvement Officer. A renowned leader in his field, he co-authored the ASA Difficult airway Management, NPO and GLP-1 guidelines, and SAMBA Diabetes management guidelines. He is a past president of the Society for Head and Neck Anesthesia (SHANA), the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA), and the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists. Currently, he serves as the vice chair of the prestigious ASA Annual Meetingand the chair of the ASA taskforce on NORA and Procedural Sedation. Widely recognized for his expertise, Dr. Abdelmalak is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences. His prolific contributions to the field include extensive publications on perioperative glucose and diabetes management, anesthesia for bronchoscopy, NORA and airway management. He has also co-edited two acclaimed textbooks: “Anesthesia for Otolaryngologic Surgery” and “Clinical Airway Management”, both published by Cambridge University Press. Sindhu Samba, MD is a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist and clinical assistant professor with special interest in regional anesthesia, POCUS, airway management and medical education. She completed her anesthesiology residency at University of Michigan and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before returning to University of Michigan as faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology. As Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship, she is intimately involved in pediatric anesthesiology education and mentorship. She is a mom and in her free time loves to read memoirs and travel.

Patrick Giam, MD, FASA, is president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and a physician partner of U.S. Anesthesia Partners. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute.

Dr. Giam’s clinical practice has been focused on neuroanesthesia, and liver transplantation. He holds clinical appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College, Houston Methodist Academic Institute, and Texas A&M School of Medicine.
Dr. Giam has been active in physician leadership and organized medicine throughout his career. He led his anesthesia practice as Division Chief, and Houston Methodist Hospital as Medical Director and Deputy Chair. He served the State of Texas through the Medical Disclosure Panel for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists; he is a member of the Board of Directors and was President in 2009.

Dr. Giam has served ASA in numerous leadership roles, most recently as president elect, first vice president and chief of the Division of Administrative Affairs. He has been a member of the ASA Board of Directors, the Anesthesia Quality Institute, and ASAPAC.

Jay Mesrobian is a clinical and operational Anesthesiologist leader with more than twenty years experience helping healthcare practices and organizations thrive. As a physician healthcare executive and Board Certified Anesthesiologist, Jay has led large, diverse clinical teams, including over 1500 providers across twenty-three states as Chief Clinical Officer/National Medical Director-Anesthesiology for TEAMHealth. His work has spanned community and academic practices, state and national specialty societies, and payer contacting committees. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American College of Healthcare Executives, and brings dual perspectives to problem-solving as both a physician anesthesiologist and a MBA-trained strategist. In 2026 he completed an executive fellowship in the University of Chicago’s Leadership and Society Initiative.

Jay received his B.A. in Philosophy at Princeton University, his MD from Northwestern University, and Physician Executive MBA at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He currently resides in Wisconsin with his wife Beth and has two adult daughters. He is an avid cyclist, Little League coach, and mentor in the I-Corps program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
