American Axle Math: Equal is Wrong!

The company proposal is to provide a “raise” to $25.75 per hour by 2030. Will workers be better off, be better able to buy the things they need in 2030? I hate to do it but let’s ask our friend AI…
A sum of $14.50 in 2008 is projected to be worth roughly $25.26 to $27.09 in 2030 in terms of purchasing power. This conversion uses historical U.S. inflation data and projects forward based on standard annual inflation scenarios
The reason I used the figure of $14.50 in 2008 is because that is when workers took a pay cut from $28.00 per hour to $14.50. Over the last eighteen years they have clawed their way to the current top pay of $22 per hour. The company proposal of $25.75 is at the bottom end of projected purchasing power, meaning workers would get a raise that allows them less ability to buy the things they need than they have today! Of course, that is if they can fight off any increases in health care insurance which the company has also proposed. American Axle math is the kind of subtraction that keeps workers falling behind.
