MoDOT to close westbound I-70 lanes overnight at the

I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange August 24-28

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews with the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project will close all westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the I-70/I-64/U.S. 61 interchange overnight August 24-28. Crews will be doing work on the existing bridge girders. All work is weather permitting.

All westbound lanes of I-70 will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28. Detours will be in place for westbound I-70 and southbound U.S. Route 61:

Westbound I-70 will be reduced to one lane and detour to northbound Route 61, (exit number 210B), turn around at Pittman Avenue, and use the westbound I-70 ramp to access westbound I-70.
Westbound I-70 traffic exiting to eastbound I-64 will detour exiting to northbound Route 61, (exit number 210B), turn around at Pitman Avenue, and use the eastbound I-64 ramp from Luetkenhaus Boulevard.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention in work zones, drive the posted work zone speed limit, and allow extra time for travel. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of the second project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville is a $600 million Design-Build project that will improve the 20-mile stretch of I-70 between Warrenton and Wentzville. The project was awarded to the Improve 70 Alliance team in November 2024. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

New trash, recycling and yard-waste carts will be delivered to Wentzville customers starting in mid-March and continuing through April as part of the solid waste updates happening this spring.

Here’s what to expect:

• Deliveries begin the week of March 16 and will continue through April.

•Your old carts will be collected on your normal pickup day the week after your new carts are delivered — regardless of when your delivery occurs.

•Instructions with next steps will be attached to your new cart. For a pickup/delivery map, visit www.wentzvillemo.gov/CartSchedule.

Recap of Last Night’s Board of Aldermen Meeting

While many items were discussed, one issue stood out — the proposal to allow UTVs and off-road vehicles on city streets within subdivisions.

Despite recommendations against the measure from City staff, our Police Department, the Assistant Fire Chief, our insurance carrier, and numerous residents who spoke or wrote in opposition, four aldermen voted in favor of allowing these vehicles.

I, along with two other aldermen from Ward 3, strongly opposed the measure. We have received many emails and comments against this legislation, and for good reason. Our responsibility as legislators is to make decisions for the greater good of the community — and I do not believe this change serves that purpose.

We already face challenges with speeding, stop sign violations, and underage drivers operating golf carts illegally. Allowing UTVs and side-by-sides will almost certainly compound these issues and add to the workload of our Police Department. These vehicles are not designed for public streets — they are off-road vehicles and should remain off-road.

This ordinance will come back in two weeks for a second and final reading. If passed at that time, it becomes law.

If you believe this decision is wrong for our community, please reach out to the four aldermen who voted in favor. While their positions may not change, your voice matters.

I would also like to thank the residents who researched and shared thoughtful testimony, as well as the aldermen who stood in opposition to this legislation. I personally feel this is a huge public safety risk.

REMINDER: FOUR COUNTIES WARN RESIDENTS BEWARE OF PROPERTY FRAUD
NEW WAYS TO AVOID TITLE THEFT and OTHER SCHEMES

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO – Officials with St. Charles, St. Louis, Lincoln and Franklin Counties are warning the public to be on guard against scammers who attempt to register a fraudulent deed to claim ownership of your home, sell it, or borrow money against it.

Recorder of Deeds Mary Dempsey of St. Charles County will host Recorders Gerald Smith of St Louis County, Lisa Smart of Franklin County and Tracy Martin of Lincoln County at a news conference set for Thursday May 29 at 9:30 a.m. at 201 North Second Street in St. Charles.

As recently as March, prosecutors with St. Louis County charged two people with attempting to steal a property owned by the City of Dellwood by filing a fraudulent deed. It’s one of a series of such crimes charged in the St. Louis region in recent years.

The Recorders are urging the public to sign up for a free property fraud alert program that tells them if their name shows up on any documents (such as a home title) that someone is submitting to a local Recorder of Deeds office.

“I’m aware of one case in St. Charles County where a family member tried to fraudulently transfer a property in the owner’s name,” says St. Charles County Recorder of Deeds Mary Dempsey.

Since January, more than 5,000 fraud alerts have been issued to subscribers in St. Charles County.

Not all alerts mean a fraud is being committed. Whenever a document matching a subscriber’s name is recorded, subscribers are notified and asked to contact the Recorder of Deeds Office at 636-949-7505 before taking further action.

In St. Charles County notaries will also soon be able to sign up for notary alerts, warning them if someone is forging their signature to notarize documents.

Red Flags for Buyers
Since the objective of property fraud is often to pawn a stolen house or land onto an honest buyer, the American Land Title Association advises property buyers to watch for these red flags:

• The property is not owner-occupied and has no outstanding mortgage or liens that would confirm the owner’s identity.
• The property is for sale below market value.
• The seller wants a quick sale and doesn’t even negotiate fees.
• The seller asks for payment by cash or wire transfer.
• The seller refuses to attend a signing in-person and claims to be out of the state or country.
• The seller is difficult to reach by phone or video; only communicates by text or email; and/or resists identity verification.
• The seller insists on using their own notary for the sale.

The annual Fourth of July Parade starts at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4 at the Wentzville Ice Arena and travels south on Luetkenhaus Boulevard, turns right onto Pearce Boulevard and ends near the intersection of Pearce Boulevard and Allen Street. This event is free to observe!

Everyone is in invited to participate in the parade by designing a float. This year’s theme is, “God Bless America.” Floats will be judged for Overall first-, second- and third-place along with Mayor’s Choice and Best-Themed Entry for first- and second-place. Float registration is due by June 9.
