New trash, recycling and yard-waste carts will be delivered to Wentzville customers starting in mid-March and continuing through April as part of the solid waste updates happening this spring.

Here’s what to expect:

• Deliveries begin the week of March 16 and will continue through April.

•Your old carts will be collected on your normal pickup day the week after your new carts are delivered — regardless of when your delivery occurs.

•Instructions with next steps will be attached to your new cart. For a pickup/delivery map, visit www.wentzvillemo.gov/CartSchedule.

Recap of Last Night’s Board of Aldermen Meeting

While many items were discussed, one issue stood out — the proposal to allow UTVs and off-road vehicles on city streets within subdivisions.

Despite recommendations against the measure from City staff, our Police Department, the Assistant Fire Chief, our insurance carrier, and numerous residents who spoke or wrote in opposition, four aldermen voted in favor of allowing these vehicles.

I, along with two other aldermen from Ward 3, strongly opposed the measure. We have received many emails and comments against this legislation, and for good reason. Our responsibility as legislators is to make decisions for the greater good of the community — and I do not believe this change serves that purpose.

We already face challenges with speeding, stop sign violations, and underage drivers operating golf carts illegally. Allowing UTVs and side-by-sides will almost certainly compound these issues and add to the workload of our Police Department. These vehicles are not designed for public streets — they are off-road vehicles and should remain off-road.

This ordinance will come back in two weeks for a second and final reading. If passed at that time, it becomes law.

If you believe this decision is wrong for our community, please reach out to the four aldermen who voted in favor. While their positions may not change, your voice matters.

I would also like to thank the residents who researched and shared thoughtful testimony, as well as the aldermen who stood in opposition to this legislation. I personally feel this is a huge public safety risk.
