Here are a few of our Booklets:

Justin Morgan Character/ Morgan Controversy
Cost: $15 (add $4.75 for S & H)
A publication of the Lyle F. Horton Memorial Ancient Morgan Archive
This booklet is 52 pages, not a lot of reading....but the content will double the size of your Morgan library.
The information herein, long buried in time, has been overlooked far too long. This book should clarify the nature of Justin Morgan and the ancient, true Morgan.
Some issues discussed in the book are old ones that became tiresome in their day, but for many, then and now, remain unresolved. The data is not airtight, but does provide fresh information that, for some, may confirm what was previously considered rumor. In one respect it may cause Mr. Battell's original hand written register to tremble..................................
When Mr. Justin Morgan returned to Vermont what did he really bring home with him?
Black Hawk and Ethan Allen............were they really Morgans?
Do you think you have a fair idea on what the height of Justin Morgan was? Was he 15 hands, 15-3 hands, 14 hands? There is far more information in this publication than you have ever read on Justin Morgan's size.

A few chapter titles:
The Breeding of Peters' Vermont
The Paddy Theory
The Dutch Controversy

The Lippitt Morgan Horse Registry registers, promotes, and protects Lippitt Morgans.

10/28/2025

Greetings to ALL Lippitt Owners and Breeders from TLMHR, Inc.
2025

The Lippitt Morgan has been in existence since the very early 1970's. Twenty-five Foundation stock were chosen. Our Corner Stone, Peters' Ethan Allen 2d 406 (not to be confused with the Cornerstone Morgan Horse Club, which includes the Saddlebred mare Ladelle A.S.H.R. #18872), would be 148 years old this year and the average year of birth of your Foundation Stock would be 1909. That being said, as far as the Lippitt goes and its definition, there have been no illegal out crosses to foreign blood registered as Lippitt for 110 years. In Battell’s registry he left room for so very much that wasn’t Morgan. There was the speed craze (Messenger blood) in which Battell’s strong preference for trotting blood prevailed as the Morgan blood trickled away. The next wave was even worse, for Battell registered the Saddlebred blood of the Government Farm- Bennington and his siblings. When Elmer Darling died in 1931 Wallace Orcutt took control of the national registry. The Saddlebred blood engulfed the Morgan blood. King Peavine became Upwey King Peavine with less than 1% Morgan blood. How can one forget Ladelle (a Saddlebred)? The next wave was Hackney blood and with that a new breed with Morgan horse registration papers. The genetics and phenotype had changed dramatically, mayhaps forever except for that pesky Woodbury branch from which the Lippitts were birthed. The Lippitts would be a forever reminder of what a sham the Morgan breed has become in modern times. No wonder the modern Morgan was given the name "the poorman's Saddlebred."
Something else to consider, there has been very little if any phenotypic changes within the Lippitt breed. Compare that with today's Morgans. We must continue to “aim to breed stallions that equal in ALL respects such a horse as Hale's Green Mountain Morgan. Our pattern is therefore fixed already. THAT IS OUR STANDARD." (H.S. Wardner Sept. 21, 1911).
We, as a Lippitt Family, do not, should not ever, sacrifice our Lippitts to the strange ideas and interpretations of the "Morgan" that have plagued the show Morgan. The addition of Saddlebred/Hackney blood, gait/pacing, the color fad, etc., all done by man in the name of high fashion and in the attempt to "improve" upon nature and it has destroyed the Morgan breed. Today, you have a papered Morgan that has more Saddlebred/Hackney blood in it than Morgan blood. The horse has changed both genetically and in its phenotype. High action should never be equated with good action. Morgan action is naturally circular, rather than rectangular/piston-like. The accent of action is on the flexion of the pasterns rather than the knees and hocks.
The Morgan has been bred out of usefulness and its fame for being a versatile horse gone...... in order to attain prestige, flash, and style to impress a judge and to capture "the blue."
The Lippitt is all that is left of the Morgan and I therefore submit to you that the Lippitt is indeed its own BREED. The Lippitt Morgan Horse Registry, Inc. believes in preserving, promoting, protecting and perpetuating the Lippitt Morgan. We are not political and serve only the Lippitt Morgan. Use your Registry! TLMHR, Inc. has never been compromised as has the national registry. Step up to The Lippitt Morgan Horse Registry, Inc. and to a sound breed with integrity to the Lippitt Morgan.
The Lippitt Morgan Horse Registry, Inc. is the only Lippitt organization with a 501c3 designation and we have, with permission from The Mid-West Morgan Horse Owners, Inc., adopted Dr. C.D. Parks, The Standard of Perfection.
*You may double register as an option as the national registry accomplishes only two things:
1. Participation in AMHA events
2. Allows for out crossing to other “papered” Morgans.
