We are excited to announce that Rockingham County Robotics, the HOTBOTZ, has received a $5000 grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation! This generous grant will enable us to continue to provide hands-on STEM learning in robotics to high school students from Rockingham County.

We had a fantastic LEGO Robotics Camp last week. Special thanks to Tractor Supply for their generous sponsorship, which made this experience possible. We also appreciate Rockingham Community College for allowing us to use their beautiful new mechatronics lab throughout the week. Our high school students from the HOTBOTZ team facilitated the camp all week, helping guide and mentor the 3rd–6th graders. The kids had an amazing time learning to build and program their robots.

Several of our Hotbotz students presented for 30 students from Bethany Community School, encouraging them to get involved in STEM / FIRST Robotics. They were excited to share their love of Robotics Competition with the students!

Crazy final day of NC District Competition! We found the issue with a few of our batteries that was causing power decrease in the course of our match. We also replaced a damaged piece from yesterday. We quickly fixed the problems and the robot was perfect for today. Our match today was so fun with a high score of 510! We finished the day in the middle of the pack however and did not get chosen for finals. Bummer! We were, however, the 4th backup robot and usually backups never get pulled up- but this game is very aggressive! The 3 in front of us got called up and we wondered if we might as well.
Kudos to all the frantic repairs by pit crews today! It was crazy! Cameras ripped off, 1/4" aluminum plates bent, all kinda parts destroyed.... usually when a robot comes sailing over the bump right into another robots innards. One of the wildest moments was in playoffs when the number one robot fell completely over when an opponent robot hit them on the bump. Also the number one alliance got a red card, their almost 600 point score went to zero, and the other alliance won, sending them to the lower bracket!
We learned so much, had to fix stuff on the fly, and had to work together to accomplish our goals. We were tough! Go HOTBOTZ!
