First Church in Wenham

First Church in Wenham We are committed to loving each other as God loves us, freely and unconditionally. We welcome everyone, without exception. We meet each other as we are with love

We gather to celebrate the living God and welcome people at any point of their faith journey. The Church was founded in 1644, and a few of our members are descendants of the original founders of the church. The church has had five meeting-houses since its incorporation, and our current building is a picturesque white steepled church overlooking the village green. The Sunday morning sound of the ca

ll-to-worship tower bell is a community landmark. While our congregation deeply respects and cherishes our historical traditions, we are firmly rooted in the present. We recognize the complexity of contemporary issues and endeavor to apply Christian values in the challenges of our everyday lives, using the Bible as an interpretive guide. With the help, guidance and inspiration of our pastors as "fellow travelers on a faith journey," we seek to expand our understandings of biblical, theological and spiritual knowledge. Tradition does not prevent us from embracing change, as we recognize the intellectual opportunity for challenge and growth through this process. We value personal relationships throughout our church community, creating an effective internal support network that can be relied upon in times of physical and emotional need. As an extension of this network, we support community-wide and international missions in the same spirit.

What a beautiful morning at First Church!

Our Pride Sunday worship service was filled with joy, reflection, and connection. We were blessed by special music that touched hearts—there wasn't a dry eye in the house. We also had the privilege of hearing personal stories shared by members of our community, each one a reminder of the different paths we’ve all taken.

It was a meaningful celebration of welcome and belonging.

Days like this remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and open-hearted community. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and gifts and helped make the morning so special. 🏳️‍🌈

What a joyful and Spirit-filled Sunday at church!

This morning we officially welcomed Rev. Shellie Brook as our settled Associate Pastor. Shellie was joined by her wife, Rebecca, their six children, and Shellie’s parents as we celebrated this important milestone in the life of our congregation.

Shellie’s thoughtful, encouraging sermon set a wonderful tone for this special day in the life of our congregation. Following worship the congregation voted unanimously to call her as our next settled Associate Pastor. We are grateful for the Spirit's guidance and the dedication of the search committee throughout this journey and excited for the ministry we will share together.

We gathered afterward in Holland Hall for a reception filled with conversation, laughter, good food, and the opportunity to personally welcome Shellie and her family.

We give thanks for this special day and look forward to all that lies ahead. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Shellie, Rebecca, and their family!

First Church in Wenham celebrates pride because we believe that every person is a beloved child of God.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the diversity of God's creation and to affirm that all people deserve love, respect, and a place where everyone belongs.
As an Open and Affirming congregation, we welcome LGBTQ+ people not as guests, but as full participants in the life of our church. We believe that God's table is open to all, and that our community is stronger when everyone is able to bring their whole selves.
This Pride Month, we give thanks for the many gifts, stories, and voices that enrich our congregation and our world.

Happy Pride Month from First Church Wenham!
