✨ FEATURED PROJECT ✨

Lower Peshastin Creek Restoration

This project by Cascade Fisheries involved redirecting a portion of the Lower Peshastin to near its historic channel and placing wood structures strategically along the new stretch of river. 1100 ft. of new primary channel was created and 800 ft. of existing channel was restored into secondary channel. This work has reengaged the floodplain and created vital resting and rearing habitat for salmon.

Around $300,000 was reinvested in Chelan County through this work, including ~$160,000 to local contractors, ~$60,000 to local businesses and ~$80,000 generated in local sales tax. Improvements were made to an important public recreation site through the creation of hiking trails and installation of interpretive signage.

The restored floodplain was designed to reconnect the river to its natural overflow areas, allowing high water to spread out rather than concentrate in a single channel. During the 2025 flooding, this reduced pressure on banks, slowed water velocities, and minimized erosion. As a result, the project area remained stable and functioned as intended, absorbing and conveying floodwaters while protecting surrounding habitats and communities.

‼️🚨FLYING SALMON🚨‼️ (now that we have your attention 🙃) This fall, we teamed up with students and teachers from Entiat Schools Middle and High School, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and Wenatchee-Entiat Beaver Project to help increase nutrients and improve conditions for salmon in the .

In total and in just a few hours, we returned 330 or about 5,000 lbs of post-spawning salmon carcasses to the river. These unique nutrients from the Pacific Ocean are brought to our forests and rivers each year through the remains left behind after salmon spawn, increasing the health of our river ecosystems and feeding wildlife, from caddisflies to other juvenile salmon to bears for example.

This project keeps hatchery salmon out of landfills and mimics the historic returns once seen in the Entiat basin. Students learned firsthand about the importance of salmon nutrients and gained hands-on experience in fisheries careers and local salmon recovery efforts.

✨️‼️HELP STUDENTS SAVE SALMON‼️✨️ This fall, the amazing students of Mission View Elementary School returned for their annual Wenatchee River floodplain restoration work party, this time to create an Indigenous harvest garden! Armed with their signature enthusiasm and awesome tools, students installed fifty Indian h**p and serviceberry plants, and with help from Valley Academy of Learning each plant was lovingly protected with mulch and cardboard to conserve water and protect from weeds!

Unfortunately, the devastating floods in our region have significantly impacted this project and much of this wonderful work has been lost. Students were sad to see their garden wiped out but are inspired and ready to get back out there to get things back to beautiful!

💥Help support our salmon recovery efforts!💥 Improving stream conditions for juvenile salmonids, our first project highlight takes us to Derby Creek in Peshastin!

This summer approximately one mile of instream habitat received some serious TLC with low-tech, human-powered, beaver-wannabe, process-based restoration methods!🌱🦫🪾

🌿🌲60 wood structures were installed to promote natural processes and provide hiding places and areas of rest for our young finned friends! Additionally, over 600 native trees and shrubs were planted improving riparian habitat with increased shade and erosion control.

Many thanks to our FINtastic funder and project partners!! WA Department of Ecology, Cascadia CD, Trout Unlimited, and Ecological Services LLC
