🚧👣SALMON STROLL WITH US👣🚧 Welcome to the Goodwin Side Channel construction stroll! If you have been driving US Highway 2 between and this summer, you might have noticed a bit of a ruckus. Well, today we are MOVING OUT, getting that guardrail put back, and celebrating the beginning of the end of this gigantic project

Your local super salmon savers, Cascade Fisheries project managers and Pipkin Construction (based in East Wenatchee - pipkinconstruction.com), have been working on reconnecting, enhancing, and expanding off channel habitat for imperiled and species

This project will bring much needed resting spots and more regulated seasonal water temperatures throughout the year - cold in the summer, but less freezing in the winter!

Our next steps are bringing native riparian plants back to the property that were lost during construction and monitoring the project as water levels change. Enjoy this walk through tour of the project during construction!!!

🐟🚧 PROJECT UPDATE 🚧🐟 Another win for Peshastin Creek!!! Cascade Fisheries and our contractors, Strider Construction, are busy as can be on a rare and exciting opportunity. Working with enthusiastic streamside landowners, we will achieve significant restoration of approximately half a mile of stream and creating a four acre floodplain in a watershed with few opportunities of this magnitude.

Peshastin Creek is an important spawning site for endangered and and one of the only cold water refuges in the Lower Basin. Fish migrating upstream move into the creek for temporary relief from the warmer Wenatchee River. Without this refuge, the hotter temperatures we're experiencing with our changing climate can be deadly to these endangered species.

This project will be completed this summer, stay tuned for the next update when we get things all wrapped up 🎀

🐟⛰️SALMON LIFECYCLE LANDSCAPE!🏔🐟 Thank you Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08), her wonderful staff, and our incredible partners for an inspiring gathering today at the future site of our Salmon Lifecycle Landscape project.

This reimagined trail will transform a portion of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery grounds along Icicle Creek into a living classroom - inspiring around 100,000 visitors of all ages each year to protect and preserve the future of salmon throughout the Pacific Northwest

✨ FEATURED PROJECT ✨

Lower Peshastin Creek Restoration

This project by Cascade Fisheries involved redirecting a portion of the Lower Peshastin to near its historic channel and placing wood structures strategically along the new stretch of river. 1100 ft. of new primary channel was created and 800 ft. of existing channel was restored into secondary channel. This work has reengaged the floodplain and created vital resting and rearing habitat for salmon.

Around $300,000 was reinvested in Chelan County through this work, including ~$160,000 to local contractors, ~$60,000 to local businesses and ~$80,000 generated in local sales tax. Improvements were made to an important public recreation site through the creation of hiking trails and installation of interpretive signage.

The restored floodplain was designed to reconnect the river to its natural overflow areas, allowing high water to spread out rather than concentrate in a single channel. During the 2025 flooding, this reduced pressure on banks, slowed water velocities, and minimized erosion. As a result, the project area remained stable and functioned as intended, absorbing and conveying floodwaters while protecting surrounding habitats and communities.
