It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own yesterday! Wayne Hersel; a proud veteran, a brother of the bunker, and a man whose presence meant more to this place than words can truly describe.
He was the kind of man who made people feel welcome the moment they walked through the doors. Whether you knew him for years or had just met him, he had a way of making conversation easy, sharing stories that carried wisdom and humor, and reminding all of us what brotherhood and community are supposed to look like.
To many of us, he was more than just a member here. He was a mentor, a role model, and a friend. He carried himself with strength, humility, and quiet pride from his years of service, and he never hesitated to pass down advice, encouragement, or a laugh when someone needed it.
Some of the best memories shared in these walls were the simple ones; sitting around the table playing cribbage, talking about life, joking around, and enjoying each otherβs company. Those moments may seem small, but they are the moments that build family, and he was a huge part of that family here at the bunker.
The bunker will not feel the same without him walking through those doors. His absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. But the stories, lessons, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will stay with us forever.
We lost a great one yesterday, but heaven gained a good man.
Rest easy, brother. Your watch is over. Weβll miss you dearly, and your seat at the cribbage table will never be forgotten.
