Climate Solutions

Climate Solutions Climate Solutions' mission is to accelerate clean energy solutions to the climate crisis.

Climate Solutions is a climate organization that is accountable to making progress in fulfilling our core mission of accelerating clean energy solutions to the climate crisis. We recognize that institutional racism, including systems and behaviors that maintain white power and privilege, exists within our organization, the broader climate and environmental movement, and throughout society. We also

recognize that the impacts of the climate crisis, pollution from fossil fuels, and at times the costs of proposed solutions fall disproportionately on communities of color, low income, Tribal Nations, and frontline communities, both in our region and across the world. This is a barrier to a more equitable future and our ability to achieve our mission. Climate Solutions has chosen to lead our work with a racial equity lens as a strategy to address all forms of oppression. Our society is steeped in gender, economic, sexual orientation, and a myriad of current and historic injustices. We believe that leading with a racial equity lens is necessary to transform institutions and systematic policies and practices to achieve equity and justice for all.

Despite national media rollbacks of climate coverage (including NPR!), and despite the Trump administration's perverse fealty to fossil fuel industries, the American people are still on fire about climate action

Two-thirds of Americans say they are worried about climate but level of media coverage does not reflect this

The world's most beloved sporting event starts today (not talking about Knicks v Spurs)! North American host cities have the fever... but so does our climate—and some think this could be the last World Cup to be played under the summer sun.

FIFA is well aware that extreme heat and humidity could affect the 2026 World Cup, and that's why this might be the final World Cup to be played in the summer.

Have you heard? More and more zero-emission buses 🚍 have hit Washington roads bringing quiet, clean, and pollution-free rides to a transit stop near you.

Our Legislative Director Leah got to go check out one of the newest all-electric buses in Wenatchee and ask what folks' are most excited about. We love seeing Climate Commitment Act dollars at work in our neighborhoods!

Oregon Clean Energy Policy Director Joshua Basofin joined Gonzaga University for a timely panel on the intersection of AI and climate, exploring how we can meet growing data center energy demand while advancing goals. We’re grateful for the warm welcome and thoughtful questions from students and fellow speakers.

Washington's Clean Fuel Standard is turning out to be the little engine that could! In 2024 alone, the CFS reduced climate pollution by 3 million tons and generated over $67 million for clean fuels innovation and community investments. That's three times the pollution reduction required by law—and the equivalent of taking about 10% of the state's gas-powered cars off the road for a whole year. Washington leads on climate!

Turns out clean fuels work for cleaner air and healthier communities.

Sometimes it’s good to step back and remember: the Pacific Northwest is home to some of the nation's strongest climate protections, and support for a just transition to clean energy . We are fighting for people and the planet, and showing what’s possible.

Thank you Wawa Gatheru for invigorating the room at our annual Climate Solutions dinner earlier this month.
There is nothing we can’t achieve. 🌟

Strong energy codes are a win-win for climate and affordability. But the fossil fuel industry and its allies have been doing everything they can to fight progress–suing the Washington State Building Code Council, pushing misleading ballot measures on voters and absurd bills in the legislature– trying to decimate energy efficiency.

But we’re still progressing towards 🚫 NO new buildings powered by fossil fuels by 2031.
🏢 🏘️ Modern, efficient buildings powered by clean electricity instead of methane gas means less energy waste, saving money on electric bills and reduced strain on the energy grid.

More on these code updates in our latest blog

Campaign redux! Updating our energy codes (again) is crucial for our climate, because the energy we use to heat and cool our buildings is the fastest-growing source of climate pollution in Washington.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is introducing a new $112 million program to help businesses and fleet operators transition to cleaner vehicles. As of April, eligible customers can request vouchers through the Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program, or WAZIP to help purchase zero-emission trucks and equipment.

A total of $112 million in incentives will be available through the state’s Climate Commitment Act. These incentives lower upfront purchase prices and allow buyers to save even more through lower ongoing operating costs. The amount of the vouchers varies, based on the type of equipment purchased. Small businesses are eligible for enhanced incentives.
