The Regional Port Authority has awarded Partners in Economic Development funding to support outdoor recreation tourism and economic vitality in the Entiat Valley.

TREAD received $19,000 in funding for the Lake Creek Campground Yurt Project, which will support the construction of year-round overnight lodging at the U.S. Forest Service campground near Entiat. The project is designed to expand recreation tourism opportunities, increase visitation, and support local economic activity throughout the region.

The yurts will be available for reservation through recreation.gov and are being developed through a collaborative partnership between TREAD, the U.S. Forest Service, Discover Entiat Valley, WA, and the City of Entiat.

The Partners in Economic Development Program supports projects that contribute to the economic vitality of Chelan and Douglas counties. Thank you Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority for supporting this project!

We are proud to say TREAD helped the Washington Bike Walk Roll Advocacy conference come to Wenatchee and we were a lead sponsor of the conference. Transportation industry leaders, bicycle advocates from all over the state, key speakers, and many community members attended. Executive Director Mat Lyons even moderated the opening Plenary Panel discussion with mayors from Leavenworth and Chelan, along with city employees from East Wenatchee and Wenatchee. TREAD also co-presented with Chelan County on the Pathways project, which seeks to find routes from the Apple Capital Loop trail to connect the communities of Rock Island, Malaga, Cashmere and Leavenworth. The project also seeks to connect Mason with Chelan, all on paved pathways!

The Blackbird Island work party was a great way to get involved and work on a project that will benefit our community! The kids fishing pond at Blackbird Island in Leavenworth, Washington was damaged in the storms and flooding, and TREAD and other amazing volunteers made a big impact at a work party last weekend.

A HUGE thank you to McMahon Excavation for the machines, and a big thank you to Trent Jackson for leading the effort and donating his own machine to the effort as well. There is still more to be done, so stay tuned for the next work party, and let's keep clearing the pond so the kids can fish this summer.

If you were unable to volunteer in person, you can still help out the project. To support this effort, there is a GoFundMe campaign. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Trout Unlimited, the official steward of the project. We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing the fundraiser and spreading the word within the community.

TREAD tabled alongside the Forest Service at the Leavenworth Community Engagement Night, explaining to community members the projects being done on 120,000 acres around Leavenworth and Cashmere. Up to 60 projects could be shovel-ready and through the process by late Fall as a part of the Upper Valley Sustainable Trails Project. Public comment is tentatively scheduled for June so stay tuned.

The kids fishing pond at Blackbird Island in Leavenworth, Washington was damaged in the storms and flooding a few months ago and, with your help, we are going to fix it. Blackbird Pond Work Party!

Details:
This Sunday, May 17th, at 8:00am we will have excavators and people to clear out the pond. When it's clear we can stock it and the kids can fish this spring and summer. We need volunteers, people with boats, (aluminum or kayak), and ropes.

Come help us clear out all of the flooding debris so that the kids can fish this spring! 🎣

If you are unable to volunteer in person, you can still help out the project. To support this effort, there is a GoFundMe campaign. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Trout Unlimited, the official steward of the project. We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing the fundraiser and spreading the word within the community.

-Don't pick the flowers, we want everyone to enjoy!🌼
-Park wisely. make sure you follow signs, leave room for emergency vehicles, and pay attention to parking hot cars on grass.🚒
-Watch for wildlife and give them space and respect.🦋
-Clean up after yourself and don't litter.🚯
-If you want to bring your pet, make sure you do your research to see if they are allowed to join you, and keep them on a leash.🐾

We spent Celebrate Trails Day 2026 cleaning up the loop trail and having a blast taking care of the amazing trails and pathways we have here in the Wenatchee Valley. Powered by Rails to Trails Conservancy, Celebrate Trails Day is an annual springtime celebration of America’s trails, and a day to get outside to experience the joy and impact of our trails.
