It’s been a week to say the least. But a very rewarding day. Gully Transportation arrived Thursday to deliver the wreaths 264 wreaths in total. A big thanks to the local Fire Department gor helping us unload them and store them till Ssturday
It great to see a community support our veterans and did so in record time. Within 10 weeks we had received enough orders and donations to provide wreaths on almost 70% of those vets interned in the cemetery.
We were barely done when community members began entering the cemetery to view the headstones adorned with the wreaths. Despite the 18 degree weather. We had so many volunteers to help place the wreaths on the graves. If by chance you ordered a wreath and it’s not on your loved ones headstone please call me at (636) 575-0073 and I will correct the situation. We are only human. 😉.
The event concluded with the ceremony tonight The Honors Choir from Wellsville-Middletown R-1 did a beautiful job! If you havent heard them make sure you attend one of their next performances. Post 3056 was awesome and the playing of Taps was very moving. We had two local young men, Weston and Noah Wolters speak on their thoughts of democracy and what it means to them the sacrifices made by men and women who have served. Keep an eye on these yeo young men. I’m confident they will be successful in their future endeavors. The evening ended with refreshments for the attendees.
All in all it was a great event and we hope other organizations will consider working with Wreaths Across America in future years.

UPDATE!!!! Due to the weather the Wreaths Across America ceremony has been relocated to the WELLSVILLE-MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL at 5 PM on December 13th. See you there.

The Historical and Preservation Society of Wellsville is working with Wreaths Across America to honor the veterans intermed in the Wellsville Cemetery. The company that started this program is owned and operated by Morrill Worcester. In 1992 he found himself with a surplus of wreaths nearing the end of the season. With the assistance of Senator Olympia Snowe, arrangements were made to place the surplus wreaths at Arlington Cemetery in one of the older sections. As plans were underway, organizations stepped up to assist in the transport and placing of the wreaths. In 2005, a photo of headstones at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet and went viral. Suddenly, thousands of requests poured in from all over the country to be able to participate in this activity. The organization in Wellsville is holding this event on December 13th. The same day it’s held all over the U.S. and in some countries outside of the US. Letters have been sent to the intermed veteran’s family to purchase a wreath for $17 to have placed on their grave. They are also selling military quality personalized dog tags for $18 a set to help purchase wreaths for those veterans that may no longer have family. Presently there are 381 veterans spanning from the Civil War to present day. You may want to view the cemetery prior to coming to the ceremony that evening. It will be held at 5 pm, in Reed Park, on Hudson Street in Wellsville. There will be a reading of all the veterans in the cemetery as well as any veterans who purchased dog tags whether they are active or inactive. During the ceremony, VFW 3056 will present the flags, the Wellsville-Middletown R-I H.S. will provide singing and refreshments will be available. Bring your lawn chair and join us in honoring our veterans this Christmas season.

Please join our mission to place wreaths on the graves of all documented Veterans in the Wellsville Cemetery. We have almost 400 documented military graves in our cemetery, but we know there are veterans interned there that don't have anything on their gravesite indicating that they served. The graves range from the Civil War time period to present day. We are attempting to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave. Each real wreath is adorned with a red ribbon and cost $17 each. You may honor your family member(s) as well as donate to others who may not have family living any longer. Your support would help us honor our veterans during this holiday season.
There are many ways you can participate in this event. First by clicking on the link and completing it for any family members or friends that have served and were honorably discharged, and sending your funds to the address provided in the form. If you don't have anyone interned in the Wellsville, MO, cemetery you may be interested you ordering some dog tags that can be used for several things (organizations, pet tags, school students, etc). Those are also located in the form. Ensure we receive your funds no later than November 28, 2025.
Secondly, if you would like to participate in the activity of placing the wreaths on the veteran’s graves, please contact Dena at 636-575-0073. Maybe your organization would be interested in participating in this event.
