⁉️WHO DOES THIS⁉️
⁉️ WHERE ARE THEIR MOTHERS ⁉️
These are the questions I keep asking and honestly I know I will never get the answer 😭.
Yesterday we helped two orphans who were posted at a Texas k1ll pen. We were told the smallest two found another home. I am praying it’s a good knowledgeable home.
Our girls who we named Liberty and Star in recognition of Memorial Day, are only 4 & 5 weeks old. Neither have their 6 week teeth. Neither have their umbilicus fully sealed (usually happens between 4-6 weeks). They were picked up and taken directly to Oklahoma State University (OSU) vet hospital where the foal specialist was waiting for them. Yesterday was a long day for all of us. I didn’t leave the hospital until late and got home even later.
Here’s what we know about the girls health: both Liberty and Star were slightly dehydrated last night requiring fluids which included dextrose to keep their glucose levels in check. They had multiple labs drawn and of course had indications of infection, because they are BABIES who aren’t even old enough to have their umbilicus sealed much less any immunity to all the freaking germs they were exposed to during their stay at a germ infested k1ll pen🤬🤯😤. Once they were stable we gave them hay, milk, milk pellets, water and a camera for us to watch them while giving them some space to eat and rest. The trauma they have experienced is so hard on them. They need a rest.
This morning they had ultrasounds of lungs and abdomen. We wanted to check their umbilical, lungs and other organs. Both girls have consolidation in their lungs. Libertys labs didn’t reflect just had bad hers is😩. Liberty also has a heart murmur. Stars labs were the first hint that all was not good.so we were not as surprised by how her lungs looked🥺.
The plan: the girls will get more labs in the morning to see what 36 hours on fluids have done for them. Fluids will be discontinued and we will monitor them for 24 hours to see how they do “on their own” with eating and drinking. Depending on what the labs say will determine if the girls get to come home on Thursday or not.
So here is the part that just blows my mind 🤯🤯and I can’t figure out, these girls are NOT feral. They are not even wild! Heck baby Kiki is more wild than they are! The girls are not even afraid of people. They let us pet and scratch them. They let us treat them. This tells me their mothers were not wild either. They learned people were okay from their mothers. Where are their mothers! Both girls try to nurse off each other. This tells us they have not been without their mothers for very long💔. They are both eating alfalfa and nibbling milk pellets we put on top of the alfalfa. They are not yet drinking the milk. We really need them to start drinking 🙏.
Please say a prayer for the girls. When we agreed to help these babies we stepped out in faith. We knew the first hurdle was getting them off the lot. Now we have medical needs and it’s adding up quickly 😬.
We need 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ for their medical. We are praying they won’t need to spend more time in the hospital, but they have lost their mothers, we can’t let them lose their lives too. We need to ensure they have the medical care necessary for them to live.
Please, if you’re seeing their post send what you can, lift a prayer for them and share asking your friends to do the same. Fb algorithm doesn’t like rescues I guess cause they don’t let all of our followers see our post. YOU are these babies only hope. Please help us keep them alive.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Please indicate Liberty and Star or orphans in the note section of your gift of life. We can’t help them without you.
