Just in case you are interested, a small group of us (double quartet) from the chorus have been invited to do a program of Barbershop Quartet tunes for the Wednesday Morning Musicals tomorrow @10:15 at the Gmeiner Center, Wellsboro. If I posted this correct, the artical published by the Wellsboro Gazette will introduce more details.
P.s. I guess I didn’t DO it correctly, so, I’ll try this for more info:
The Wednesday Morning Musicales will host eight members of the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus who will entertain on Wednesday, March 11 at 10:15 a.m. at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center, 134 Main St., Wellsboro.
The Wellsboro Men’s Chorus members who will be performing are Steve Marshall and Al Morrow on high voice tenor I, Bud Voorhees and Mark Wood on melody: tenor II, baritone singers will be Matthias Simonis and Keith Thorne, and on bass will be Tom Reindl and John Swanson.
Barbershop groups sing in close harmony, wear straw hats and bowties. It is one of the earliest forms of music to originate in North America. The music is usually sung as a quartet.
This group will present a program of barbershop music and will include song favorites such as “Coney Island Baby,” “A Bicycle Built for Two,” “In the Good Old Summertime” and “Wild Irish Rose” to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Many other songs will be presented to the Musicales.
Wellsboro Men’s Chorus welcomes all men of the surrounding areas to join. They perform throughout the year at local community events and churches. The group offers scholarships to college bound students who wish to further their music studies.
Wednesday Morning Musicales meets on the second Wednesday or each month, September through May. The meetings are free and open to the public.
