This weekend’s inaugural Women’s Outdoor Excursion was something pretty special.

As part of the weekend, this incredible group of women came together at Nessmuk Lake to rebuild a bridge that had fallen into the creek.

It may look like a bridge, but to me, it represents so much more.

This was one of the very first trail projects completed at Nessmuk Lake, and it marks the beginning of what will eventually become a reclaimed trail system leading to the back of the lake, including our future sensory trail and improved ease of access to the outdoors.

There was something incredibly meaningful about having women be the ones to help start it.

They learned new skills. They used tools. They worked together. They took on something that may have looked intimidating at first and proved to themselves that they could do it.

And in the process, they were quite literally building bridges for tomorrow.

Bridges for other women to feel welcome in the outdoors.
Bridges for children and families.
Bridges for people who may need a little more accessibility to experience nature.
Bridges to places at Nessmuk Lake that we are just beginning to bring back to life.

Years from now, people will walk across this bridge without knowing the story behind it.

But we will.

A group of women stood here during the very first Women’s Outdoor Excursion and helped build the beginning of something much bigger than themselves.

That feels like a pretty incredible way to start. ❤️

What a beautiful weekend spent with an amazing group of women at the Inaugural Women’s Excursion.

There is something pretty special about watching women step outside of their comfort zones, try new things, laugh together, learn together, and just enjoy being outdoors.

This weekend was made possible through the collaboration of some incredible agencies and individuals who came together with one goal in mind: creating a meaningful outdoor experience for women.

A huge thank you to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources: both the Parks and Forestry divisions who helped make this weekend possible.

These are the kinds of partnerships that make outdoor education and outdoor recreation stronger. When organizations come together, we are able to create opportunities that help women build confidence, learn new skills, make connections, and hopefully leave already thinking about their next adventure.

I am so grateful to have been a small part of such a great weekend. ❤️

This weekend was one of those weekends that reminds me exactly why we do what we do.

From Friday straight through Sunday, we had back-to-back events filled with youth, outdoor sports, community, and fundraising and it was absolutely amazing.

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was archery at the Tioga County Sportsmen for Youth Field Day

The incredible group of people who continue to make this event happen year after year are some of my favorite outdoor mentors, and watching so many young people get the opportunity to learn from them is pretty special.

Our Junior Coaches showed up too.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. they helped more than 100 youth learn how to shoot archery. It was a long day, but they stayed engaged, encouraged every new shooter who stepped up to the line, and never missed an opportunity to coach.

That is leadership.

I am incredibly proud of our Junior Coaches, proud of every volunteer who makes Youth Field Day possible, and proud of every kid who stepped outside, tried something new, and spent the day in the outdoors.

These are the days that build the next generation of outdoorsmen and women.

I've been thinking a lot about last Friday's Senior Expo.

When we set up our booth, we had two goals.

The first was to connect with veterans through our TIMQ: Veterans in the Wild. We met so many veterans who still have a passion for the outdoors and are looking for opportunities to stay active, build friendships, and continue doing the things they love. Those conversations reminded me why this program matters so much.

The second was to reach grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. We know firsthand how many grandparents have stepped into the role of parent, often unexpectedly, and the response we received was incredible. We had meaningful conversations with grandparents who were excited to learn that there are organizations like This Is My Quest creating opportunities for families to reconnect through the outdoors.

Events like this remind me that sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply show up. Every conversation has the potential to become a new partnership, a new participant, or a family that finally realizes they don't have to navigate life's challenges alone.

A sincere thank you to Representative PA State Rep. Clint Owlett and his staff for organizing such a well-attended event and inviting us to participate. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people and look forward to continuing these relationships in the months ahead.

If we met you at the Senior Expo, thank you for stopping by our table. We hope to see you again soon whether it's on the water, around a campfire, on a hiking trail, or at one of our community programs.

That's what This Is My Quest is all about.

I really hope you’ll take a minute to read this post.

We are beyond grateful whenever people take time out of their busy lives to support nonprofit work. Last night, an amazing group of community members came out to support This Is My Quest and enjoy a fun night of Music Bingo.

A very special thank-you goes to Timeless Destination and KC101 Hometown Country for making the evening possible. Timeless Destination gives so much back to our area, far more than they ever acknowledge, and we are incredibly fortunate to have both of these organizations supporting our community.

Nonprofits cannot provide the programs, services, and opportunities they do without community support at every level. Without each of our local nonprofits, our community would be missing something that helps make it feel like a community.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, played, laughed, donated, and supported our mission. It truly matters.
