As college costs continue to rise dramatically, Mid-Prairie students rely heavily on the support of the Mid-Prairie Foundation and its many donors to help them financially champion their dreams. The scholarships provided to Mid-Prairie’s graduating students ensure financial struggles will not come between them and their future goals. Many scholarships offered honor long-time supporters of the Mid-Prairie district, and the Bob and Doris Stout Scholarship is a perfect example. Robert (Bob) and Doris Stout exemplified impactful community support and a strong love for education. Bob Stout was a farmer in the West Chester area and served in the U.S. Army in the occupation of Japan after World War II. Along with being a great father, he was a community leader, very active in the West Chester church, Farm Bureau, and the Cattlemen’s Association, even becoming a state director of the group. He was a Mid-Prairie School Board member for several years in the 1960’s and 1970’s, serving as School Board President for five of the years, and later became a Washington County Supervisor from 1996 to 2004. His active engagement in supporting his community was a model example to those around him. Doris Stout was a school teacher until her oldest son, Kent, was born in 1953. She then became a stay-at-home mother, also volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and stayed very involved in her family’s church, teaching Sunday School classes and Bible School for many years. She helped her husband on the farm for about 50 years, while also substitute teaching in the Mid-Prairie district. Education was important to both Bob and Doris. The Bob and Doris Stout Scholarship was founded because attending college was difficult or not available to them, so they wanted to do their part in helping future Mid-Prairie graduates afford their college dreams. This scholarship honors their legacy and commitment to education while supporting future generations of graduates as they continue on into their college studies. Thank you to Bob and Doris Stout, and all of our generous donors, who continue to support our Mid-Prairie graduating seniors.
