This organization is top notch, that supports the Panhandle in so many ways. With their help we can keep going to service and protect our community and surrounding area. The $10,000 dollars will be used to make sure our equipment is always ready to serve.

The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, for the ones that don't know about it please look them up an become a member to such a great team. They didn't just bless this department with money but most importantly they prayed over us at the end before they left. That's when you know they are servants of God. Many thanks again to Suzanne and Julie

We've got some cumulus clouds building in the eastern Panhandles. While we only may not see much in coverage for the thunderstorms today we do expect something to develop in the next 1 to 3 hours (between 4 and 7pm). If a storm develops it will have the potential to be strong to possibly severe, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats.

Thanks for Hedley Volunteer Fire Department for the invitation to come train. Always a great time to train but also working together among different departments is a special bond to work swiftly together to make sure everyone is safe but doing the job.

Wellington VFD and Samnorwood VFD went to help Clarendon VFD at Howardwick 2-17-2026. We formed a Collingsworth County Strike Team which was made up of two trucks from each department to help with the fire. There were many different fires going on this day in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and still some fires are going. It is something to watch when communities from all over come together to do whatever it takes to protect everything and everyone. We are sure proud to be about of many of these group of people. These pictures and videos are from Colby Henard.

With the forecasted weather and possible power outages, please check your Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Monitors.
Most alarms are only good for 10 years.

When using alternative sources of heat, please keep you and your family's safety a top priority. Don't use propane or fuel powered heaters inside of the home.
If you hook a generator up to your house, please let your power company know it is in place to prevent possible injuries.

In December we had our 2nd annual WVFD awards banquet.

Fireman of the Year is given to the fireman that has the highest percentage of meetings and calls present and overall performance. This year that honor was bestowed upon Hunter Stark.

The Workhorse Award is voted on by the WVFD members honoring the fireman that has gone above and beyond behind the scenes to keep the department going. This year Ethan Cummings was chosen.

The Brotherhood Award is a fireman that the members of WVFD deem to always be behind them and encouraging, promoting group compatibility. This year that award went to Matt Orr.

The last award voted on by the WVFD members is the Kicking Ass Award. As an "ass" (donkey) has been the WVFD mascot for many many years, this Award embodies a fireman's determination to get the job done. This year Sawyer Sims was the recipient.

In addition to the annual awards, service awards were given for 5, 10, 15 and 20 consecutive years.

2025 Service Awards:
Kollin Kemp-5 year
Jonathan Hamby-15 year
Matt Orr-15 year
