Wellesley College blackOUT Queer and questioning students of African descent at Wellesley College

About Us

blackOUT is a branch of Wellesley College's Ethos, a diversity initiative that serves as a support group and a social body for students of African descent. In addition to its role as a source of support and social connection, blackOUT also aims to provide information regarding the black/African queer community in the greater Boston area and its colleges and universities. Privacy Policy

Currently, blackOUT is not open to students who do not identify as queer/questioning and of African descent, even allies. This is to ensure a safe space for students who are not comfortable being 'out,' are coming to terms with their sexuality and may need a private space for that exploration and discussion, or may fear intolerance and backlash from friends, family and/or acquaintances. Whatever the individual's reasons may be, we ask that non-blackOUT members respect this space as a place to grow and love oneself in a supportive and understanding community of people who are able to share their queer and questioning experiences as those who come from a similar ethnic background. Allies, please know that, though you may not join us, we absolutely appreciate your ongoing support and understanding. Most importantly, though the group is not necessarily "open," it is by no means "exclusive" and is open to anyone who, having read and understood this policy, feels that they belong here.
