Peace Coalition

Peace Coalition Peace Coalition is dedicated to the establishment of peace at Wellesley and in the world.

We work to cultivate peace within ourselves, promote peace and social justice within our college community and within the broader world. Peace, to us, is not just an anti-war stance, but it is about breaking down all external and internal systems of oppression. We engage in dialogues and host events that analyze our current world predicament. Together, we come up with steps we can take personally,

locally, globally towards a permanent, sustainable peace. We are seriously dedicated to the cause of Peace and always find reasons to smile, laugh, and love.

This Week in Peace: http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/10/world/africa/nigeria-bombing/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Today, at least 47 people were killed and 79 injured in a su***de bombing outside of a school in northern Nigeria. The attacker, suspected to be a member of Boko Haram, was dressed in traditional school clothing, making it difficult for him to be recognized as foreign to the student body. Boko Haram is a radical Islamic militant group known for its attack on institutions that teach Western principles.

In the Peace Coalition, we know that every conflict has multiple underlying issues that exist at the root. We send our condolences to the community in northern Nigeria as they deal with this great loss. We send hope for the healing of those who are injured and of the community at large. We send peace their way and to the world and encourage you to do the same.

At least 47 people were killed and 79 were wounded Monday by a su***de bombing outside a school in northern Nigeria, police said.

Just someone awesome that shaped the discussions of many social justice activists in the US.

(Photos below)Women Strike for Peace (WSP) was formed in 1961 after over 50,000 women across the country marched for peace and against above ground testing of nuclear weapons. By the mid 1960s the focus of the organization shifted to working against the Vietnam war. Dorothy Marder took photographs…

We have to ask, where did the gun come from. We need to ask why do those structures allow those gun pipelines exist. We need to stop framing gun control as freedom issue for the owners when it takes the lives away from thousands. Being alive is a greater freedom than owning guns.

From Trans Inclusion people at Wellesley:
Along with many other students at Wellesley, we believe that the refusal to admit trans women is blatant discrimination and inconsistent with the college's mission. Trans women are women that are marginalized because of harmful norms about gender and should therefore have opportunities to education at Wellesley.

This past semester, we asked admissions to clarify the current policy and discuss the future of a more inclusive policy and reached out to peer institutions and laid the groundwork for the next academic year. Weekly Sunday meetings are at 3pm in the MFC. Feel free to contact: Ally Pyers, Cat Shattuck, Gray Vaughn, Marissa Klee-Peregon or Rose Layton
