At the MacJannet Foundation, we understand the power of education and mentorship, thanks to Donald and Charlotte MacJannet. Here's a great interview with the 2021 MacJannet Prize First Place winner, the Nine Tenths Mentoring Programme at Rhodes University, Makhanda, South Africa.

As Diana Hornby, the university’s Director of Community Engagement says "If one child out of a family has a Rhodes University degree, that changes the circumstances of the whole family. A study by one of our units shows that 96% of Rhodes students are meaningfully employed in about a year after graduation. So students know now that the program is a pathway to success. With their efforts and a good degree, they can change not only their own circumstances but those of their whole family. They pull up the other children, who see them as their role models. The earning power of that one family member changes the circumstances for the rest of the family. It is true intergenerational change. For more than ten years, the MacJannet Foundation in partnership with the Talloires Network, has given the MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship to programs that are part of the Talloires Network of universities around the globe. A monetary prize is given to programs that demonstrate exceptional student community engagement and service initiatives.

The MacJannet Foundation is saddened to learn of the recent passing of Professor Pierre Laurent, at the age of 88. Among his many accomplishments, he was an early supporter of Le Prieuré and the Tufts University European Center. He taught in Talloires for many years and remained a strong advocate of the teachings of Donald and Charlotte MacJannet. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, students and colleagues.
