Wellesley Conservation Land Trust

Wellesley Conservation Land Trust The WCLT is a private, non-profit, land trust and conservation education organization incorporated in 1958.

We accomplish our mission through advocacy, education, property ownership, and owning conservation restrictions on private land. The mission of the Wellesley Conservation Land Trust is to protect and preserve the natural environment in Wellesley, maintain sanctuaries open to the public for study and enjoyment, and educate youth and interest adults in matters of conservation

As a land trust, the W

CLT takes title to properties, either through gifts or purchases, which then become permanent nature sanctuaries. The WCLT also accepts conservation easements on private properties. To fulfill its education mission, the WCLT organizes two public programs per year: one in the fall, which usually exposes primary school children to live animals, and one in the spring which appeals to adults. The WCLT has produced nature pamphlets describing its properties, and recently published a revised edition of Walks in Wellesley, a guide with maps of WCC sanctuaries, as well as of Wellesley town conservation land and trails. The Wellesley Conservation Land Trust is not part of Wellesley town government, though we work in cooperation with the Town of Wellesley's Natural Resources Commission and Trails Committee.

You cannot rebuild a forest.

In the mid 1990s, Wellesley resident Jean Mayell fought to conserve nearly 80 acres of forested area just north of Babson College. Read the Select Board’s questions to the state. Good questions!

This week’s Select Board agenda packet contains a seven-page letter sent to Ed Augustus, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC), laying out 37 questions about the proposed sale of the 45 acre parcel for 180 units or more of housing at 40 Oakland Street. The questions ...

The Wetlands Buffer Zones are outlined in yellow at the rear of MassBay College’s parking lot on the map below.

The Affordable Homes Act, under which the 40-acre MassBay Forest is proposed to be sold, overrides environmental protections.

This is from a document provided by Town Counsel:

Q: “Is there ANY protection from development on wetlands, i.e. even a buffer?”
A: “DCAMM has taken the position in other communities that the Wetlands Protection Act does not apply to projects undertaken through the AHA process.”
