We are looking for 5 field biologists to conduct Pinyon Jay (PIJA) surveys to assess occupancy across the pinyon-juniper habitats of New Mexico.
Pinyon Jay populations have been declining by 3-4% annually for the last 50 years. For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of spending time with this fascinating species, Pinyon Jays are nomadic, raucous, highly social and intelligent corvids that nest in colonies. Their fate is largely tied to that of Pinyon Pines, which are becoming scarser on the landscape due to management activities and drought. This project, funded by NM Dept of Game and Fish, will provide data relevant to the statewide management of pinyon juniper habitats for PIJA conservation.
Dates: mid-March to mid-May
Location: across NM
Salary: $17.50-19.38/hour + $100 per diem per work day, mileage reimbursed at $0.67/mile.
