Second Update: I think we’ve found a solution! Thank you all for your incredible help in finding this gentleman some help!

Update: thank you for such a great response!! We will reach out to everyone tomorrow once we figure out all the details of who can help with what. Thank you thank you!!

We have a gentleman in Ontario, Oregon who is a cancer client of ours. He’s in a very tough situation financially. Is there anyone locally who might be willing to help this man get his vehicle in working order so he can get to his cancer treatments? He needs an oil change and he might have an oil leak - possibly just needs a new filter. He also has a flat tire.

We need a mechanic / local shop who would be willing to do this as a favor and donation to our cancer client. If you have any leads on someone who may be willing to help, please send us a message.

Edited to add details: Angel Wings can transport him but he’d really like to get his vehicle fixed so that he doesn’t have to rely on other transportation. So we are hoping to help with both issues.

Thank you!

📌Eating during cancer treatment can be challenging, especially when dealing with fatigue, nausea, taste changes, or appetite loss. While every person’s needs are different, choosing nutrient-rich foods can help support strength, energy, hydration, and recovery.

🥑 Foods such as eggs, lean proteins, berries, leafy greens, avocados, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, beans, and plenty of fluids may help provide important nutrients during treatment. Always talk with your healthcare team or registered dietitian about your specific nutritional needs.

❤️ At Angel Wings Network, Inc., we understand that nutrition can be an important part of the cancer journey. Small bites, simple meals, and staying hydrated can make a big difference.

‼️Disclaimer: This information is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider regarding dietary needs during treatment.

🩷How We Help:
We never want one of our clients to go without healthy foods and because of our generous donors, we are able to provide emergency grocery assistance if needed. Food insecurity is very common and we want to do our part in helping relieve that burden. We can also provide additional resources and information on local food banks.

💗 Cancer Care Pals Program 💗

At Angel Wings Network, Inc., we believe that no one should face cancer alone. That’s why our Cancer Care Pals program was created — to provide friendly check-in phone calls, encouragement, and compassionate connection to cancer patients throughout their journey.

Many cancer patients experience loneliness, fear, exhaustion, and emotional overwhelm during treatment. Sometimes, something as simple as a kind voice on the phone can make a tremendous difference. A quick check-in can remind someone that they are cared for, supported, and not forgotten.

Cancer Care Pals volunteers make phone calls to clients to see how they are doing, offer encouragement, listen with compassion, and help identify any needs or concerns that may need follow-up from our team. Volunteers also take simple notes so we can continue providing the best support possible.

We are currently looking for caring volunteers to help with this meaningful program. Volunteers may come into the office once a week to make calls and take notes, or make monthly calls remotely from home. Volunteers should be comfortable making phone calls, computer literate, and have a working email address.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life — one phone call at a time. 💕

If you are interested in becoming a Cancer Care Pal volunteer, please contact Angel Wings Network to learn more.

Donation Opportunity! 🫖 🍵

We are in need of individually wrapped tea bags. We give packets of tea to our cancer clients. Here’s why!

☕️ Why Tea Can Be Helpful During Cancer Treatment ☕️

Tea can be a comforting and beneficial beverage for people going through cancer treatment. Staying hydrated is important during treatment, and warm tea can be easier to tolerate than plain water when experiencing nausea, dry mouth, sore throat, or taste changes. Many herbal teas also contain natural compounds that may help soothe the digestive system, promote relaxation, and provide comfort during difficult days.

Helpful Teas for Cancer Patients

🍵 Ginger Tea
Ginger is well known for helping reduce nausea and upset stomach, which can be common side effects of chemotherapy and other treatments.

🍋 Lemon Ginger Tea
Combines the soothing benefits of ginger with a bright citrus flavor that may help combat taste changes and encourage hydration.

🌼 Chamomile Tea
A gentle, caffeine-free tea that may help promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support better sleep.

🌿 Peppermint Tea
Can help soothe digestive discomfort, bloating, and mild nausea. Some people also find the refreshing flavor helpful when experiencing taste changes.

🍯 Honey Lemon Tea
A warm blend that can be soothing for a sore throat, dry mouth, or irritation caused by treatment. (Avoid honey for infants under one year old.)

🌹 Lavender Tea
Known for its calming properties and may help reduce anxiety and promote restful sleep.

Important Note: Always check with your healthcare team before using herbal teas, especially if you are receiving chemotherapy, radiation, or taking medications, as some herbs may interact with treatment.

This recipe can be a wonderful option for many cancer patients because it is warm, nourishing, filling, and packed with nutrients that help support the body during treatment. Brown rice and black beans provide plant-based protein, fiber, and lasting energy, which can help patients maintain strength and feel fuller longer. The vegetables add important vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health and immune function.

It’s also fairly gentle on the stomach compared to heavily processed or greasy foods, while still being flavorful and comforting. The soft texture can make it easier to eat for some people experiencing fatigue or appetite changes during treatment. Plus, the ingredients are affordable, shelf-stable, and easy to keep on hand, making it a practical meal for families on a budget.

The recipe can also be adjusted depending on treatment side effects:

* Use mild seasoning if someone is sensitive to spice
* Add cheese or avocado for extra calories if weight loss is a concern
* Blend or soften ingredients more if chewing is difficult
* Add shredded chicken for additional protein if needed

Of course, every cancer patient’s nutritional needs are different, so it’s always important to follow guidance from their doctor or dietitian.
