Our Story

Project Weidman started of as a committee of the Weidman Business Association in the summer of 2016 to replace the dated and dangerous playground at Mitchell Park. They met and decided on a new playground with a price tag of $59,668. That price tag led them to believe that they would have to build in stages over a 3 year period.

By the time February of 2017 came along they were running into a lot of roadblocks to get any donations. At their February meeting the group was going to give up on the playground all together or they would form their own non profit and get a 501 C (3) Charitable Non Profit Status that would open the doors to a whole world of grant money. They opted for the latter and on February 22nd the IRS recognized Project Weidman as its own 501 C (3) Charitable Non Profit Organization.

An April live and silent auction were planned to help raise some money. The group was overwhelmed by the generosity of the donors and the community as a whole. They raised $28,000.

A lot of faith was being held in the belief that we would be awarded some 2% money in May. When that didn’t happen there were enough grants that were wrote and they never faltered.
