This summer our older scouts and their advisors spent 12 days at Philmont Scout Ranch. As 2026 Crew 708-D, we completed nearly 75 miles on itinerary 12-14. The miles were challenging, but we were rewarded with amazing views!

We also enjoyed:
- Over 10 hours of conservation projects and education
- Navigation and orienteering (We didn’t get lost!)
- Tomahawk throwing and black powder rifle shooting
- Rock climbing
- Staff camp activities and campfire programs
- Implementing Leave No Trace principles
- Daily devotionals
- Spar pole climbing
- Crew team building and leadership sessions

We are excited to plan our next trip to Philmont!

Some of our favorite activities at summer camp include camp-wide competitions. This year we participated in the Gaga Ball tournament (3rd place finish), the camp triathlon (1st place!), and the raft race (2nd place). However, we’re most proud of our repeat Fat Bat championships! ⚾️

In addition to enjoying everything the Camp Constantin summer has to offer our scouts, we also worked on some campsite improvements. Of course working up a sweat midweek led to some camp laundry too! A Scout is clean, after all.

Last Tuesday we took part in a Camp Constantin tradition - waking up early to catch the sunrise while paddling to Hell’s Gate. It was a beautiful morning to get some paddling and hiking in. Some of our scouts even had the chance to upright their canoe on the way back! 🛶

Our scouts love learning new skills and working on merit badges at summer camp! From handicraft classes like basketry and leatherwork, to learning new outdoor skills. Of course the scouts’ favorite classes are always at aquatics and the range!

Our scouts had the honor of supporting this year’s San Jacinto District recognition event - performing the flag ceremony and assisting with preparations and clean-up. A highlight of the evening was the well deserved recognition of John as an Outstanding Assistant Scoutmaster! Thank you for your unwavering commitment, planning, and leadership that have been instrumental in shaping our troop's experiences.

Last month the troop spent a weekend at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Our scouts and adults leaders learned to work through several challenges and still completed a 10.5 mile hike with packs. We also visited the dinosaur tracks site and survived overnight thunderstorms. It took a few days for all of us to dry out. 🏕️
