💔💔😣
It is with great sadness that the League City Police Department announces the passing of Lieutenant Eric Cox, who died on the morning of December 1, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Eric was born on September 5, 1974, in Texas City, Texas, to Cheryl Lynette Ravey and Terry Wayne Cox.
Eric’s dedication to public service began early. While still in high school, he served as a volunteer firefighter. As graduation approached, he chose to continue serving others by joining the United States Navy, becoming a Corpsman assigned to the Fleet Marine Force. His service earned him the respected and affectionate title of “Devil Doc” among the Marines he supported. After completing his Navy service honorably, Eric continued his commitment to public safety as a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy and later as a Galveston Police Officer. In 2006, he returned to his firefighting roots by joining the Houston Fire Department.
In January 2008, Eric joined the League City Police Department as a patrol officer. As he advanced in his career, he took it upon himself to revive the LCPD K9 Program, laying the foundation for the successful and respected program that exists today. His passion for the work, and for his K9 partner, Pako, was evident to all who knew him.
Eric was promoted to Sergeant in August 2015, where he supervised both a patrol district and the K9 Unit. In June 2018, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, serving first as a Watch Commander, then as Lieutenant over the Criminal Investigations Division, and later as Lieutenant of the Office of Professional Standards.
Eric was a steady presence, a loyal friend, a devoted partner to his K9, and above all, a loving husband and father. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Marie Cox, and his three children: Tristan, Wyatt, and Nina. He is also survived by his mother, Cheryl Young, and her husband Duane; and his father, Terry Cox, and his wife Delia.
Funeral Services and Honors for Lt Eric Cox will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Grace Church Houston, 14505 Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77034. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the League City Police Officers’ Association (555 W. Walker St., c/o LCPOA, League City, TX 77573).
