Ready for School Support plays a crucial role in supporting the largest philanthropic program for adults, which provides students from Pre-K to 12th grade the opportunity to shop for new clothing and accessories, helping them feel confident as they enter the classroom.

A key component of the teen philanthropic program involves donating liquid laundry detergent to school districts, enabling families to access washing machines and dryers—facilities that may otherwise be inaccessible to those lacking the funds or resources to do laundry elsewhere.

Ethan Haile delivers his donation for distribution to the designated district administration building.

Project Snuggle is a philanthropic program dedicated to providing comfort and security to children during some of the most challenging moments in their lives. For some children, leaving home can be a sudden and traumatic experience, often occurring with little warning and barely enough time to gather their belongings. In these situations, children may leave with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, stepping into an uncertain future filled with fear and confusion.

Receiving comforting items upon entering a shelter truly makes a difference, and Bay Area Service Teens are proud to be part of this welcoming process.

Notes for Folks is a longstanding philanthropic program of Bay Area Service Teens, focused on creating cards with thoughtful messages for residents of Discovery Village Clear Lake's memory care facility. The goal is to provide encouragement and a sense of connection to individuals who may feel isolated.

This program has benefited greatly from the leadership of Cindi Matthews, who has served as adult liaison for the past seven years. As she steps down from this role, we recognize and appreciate her commitment and the positive impact she has made. Her dedication has helped make Notes for Folks a valued initiative among the teens and a meaningful outreach for the community.

Reflecting on three decades of service, Bay Area Service Teens—formerly Assisteens® of the Bay Area—exemplifies youth-driven philanthropy. Chartered in 1996 as an all-teen auxiliary of Bay Area Service League, our organization has evolved in name and scope, but never in commitment. As we became Bay Area Service Teens and our parent organization rebranded as Bay Area Service League, our legacy of impact endures.

Membership began for students in grades seven through twelve; as interest grew, eligibility shifted to high schoolers to strengthen our focus. For nearly 30 years, Bay Area Service Teens have been vital to the League’s philanthropic work, collaborating with adults and leading new initiatives.

Our journey is defined by hands-on service—supporting Ready for School, energizing fundraising events, creating Assist-A-Child cards, and volunteering at the Resale Shop. This spirit continues to set us apart.

Innovation and collaboration drive us. In 2021, along with our adult members, we launched Snack Attack Packs for students in need. Fundraising through events and community support—grants, donations—lets us expand our reach.

Our impact is broad and deeply felt. Teens have touched the lives of all ages, adapting as needs evolve. Retired programs—like Bingo at the Terrace and CAPS for Cancer—make way for new initiatives: Basic Kneads fights food insecurity; Birthday-in-a-Box brings joy to at-risk children; Cause for Paws aids animal welfare; Crafted with Care supports children in crisis; Notes for Folks Cards brighten seniors’ days; Project Snuggle gives comfort to children in shelters.

Membership remains strong, with teens demonstrating service and leadership through an elected board. Each year, members meet eligibility requirements and often volunteer with other local nonprofits, exemplifying compassion and responsibility.

Celebrating thirty years, we honor a legacy built on the vision and heart of young people determined to make a difference. Our commitment to service ensures a bright future for the next generation of leaders.

In early May, Bay Area Service Teens partnered with Bay Area Service League for their Snack Attack Packs collaboration, assembling 1,050 meals as the final effort for the 2025-2026 season.

Teens and adults worked together to pack microwaveable meals, snacks, and drinks for local students who need extra nutrition outside school hours.

This activity is central to the teens’ Basic Kneads philanthropic program.

Bay Area Service Teen's auxiliary board began its year with great enthusiasm in June and maintained that momentum throughout, organizing a wide range of activities.

Chair Lily Boyles guided the board and its members through important business matters as they transitioned to our new name. She effectively kept everything on track from the start of the fiscal year to the very end.

Vice Chair Membership Jackson Lee took on the significant responsibility of ensuring that everyone who attended the meetings signed in, seamlessly adapting to the different locations of the gatherings.

Ethan Haile, Vice Chair Philanthropic Programs, managed six philanthropic initiatives following membership meetings. He presented the updates to all program service agreements to reflect the new auxiliary name and any changes to philanthropic program names. This included adding donated liquid laundry detergent to the Ready for School Support program.

Alivia Newberry, Vice Chair Resource Development, skillfully organized the Heart Healthy Hustle fundraiser. She coordinated with vendors, the venue, versatile participants, and volunteers without missing a beat.

Gabriel Cervantes, Vice Chair, Marketing and Communications, encouraged active participation on social media, resulting in impressive growth—over 1,600 followers on Facebook and 870 on Instagram.

Alexandra Chrisman, Secretary, meticulously prepared professional minutes for all board and membership meetings.

Jasmine Ross, Assistant Auxiliary Treasurer, closely monitored the organization's financial health, ensuring that it stayed within budget while exceeding revenue expectations.

Drew Garcia, Parliamentarian, was always available to provide guidance when needed.

Claire Collura, Chair-Elect, took diligent notes to ensure she is well-prepared for the upcoming year.

Luke Alonzo provided liquid laundry detergent to help students who don’t have access to washing machines clean their clothes at school district facilities.

Feeling clean and fresh when stepping into the classroom plays a key role in boosting mental well-being and sets students up for a productive day of learning.

These efforts are part of the Ready for School Support program by Bay Area Service Teens, making life a little easier for students in need.

We would like to extend our genuine thanks to St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church for their continued support of Bay Area Service Teens!

From generously opening their doors for our monthly meetings to hosting our summer philanthropy days, they have continually demonstrated their dedication to uplifting community organizations.

To show our appreciation, Bay Area Service Teens made a donation to Father Mike Stone during the annual meeting on Sunday, May 17th.

Thank you for giving our young volunteers the opportunity to learn, grow, and truly make a difference in their community.
