As we bid farewell to 2025 on this New Year’s Eve, we’re filled with gratitude and hope at Peaceful Pastures Ranch. 🌅

This year brought challenges as a year of recovery after Hurricane Milton destroyed our fences, wash rack, barn roof, and hay barn at the end of 2024 but with your incredible support, we’ve rebuilt our paddocks, ensuring our rescued sanctuary horses have safe, sustainable spaces to thrive.

In 2026, the Year of the Horse! We’re embracing growth, change, and sustainability. Our focus turns to rebuilding those vital structures, providing even better care for our equine healers who give so much to our veterans, first responders and families through trauma-informed workshops and therapy.

We’re excited to launch fun new fundraisers throughout the year to support our horses’ lifelong sanctuary and expand our healing programs.

Together, we’re building a brighter future where horses and humans heal side by side. 🐴❤️

Thank you for being part of our herd. Here’s to a year of strength, renewal, and unbreakable bonds!

🐴 For those who go to the barn to heal....

There’s a reason the barn feels different when your heart is heavy.
A reason the air seems softer,
the sounds quieter,
the world a little easier to breathe in.

Horses don’t ask what’s wrong.
They don’t expect you to explain
or justify
or pretend you’re fine.

They just feel you.
They read the things you don’t say,
the weight you carry,
the storm you’re trying to hide.

Somehow, they know.

And in their gentle, wordless way,
they offer you the kind of healing
people struggle to give.

The kind that doesn’t require talking.
The kind that doesn’t rush you.
The kind that doesn’t judge your hurt
or your tears
or the silence you bring with you.

Just being near them…
something shifts.
Your breathing slows.
Your shoulders drop.
Your heartbeat softens
into the rhythm of theirs.

Because horses don’t heal you
with answers,
they heal you
with presence.

With stillness.
With trust.
With the reminder that it’s okay
to take things one step at a time.

Sometimes healing looks like
brushing out a mane
until your thoughts untangle with it.
Sometimes healing looks like
burying your face in a warm neck
and letting the tears fall because
you’ve been trying to hold it together
for too long.

And sometimes healing is just
standing in the quiet,
with a horse beside you,
while the pieces inside you
slowly settle into place again.

Not because the pain is gone,
but because you remember
you’re not facing it alone.

For anyone going through something heavy right now…
for anyone who slips away to the barn
just to feel like themselves again…
you’re not weak.
You’re healing.

And there is no safer place
for a hurting heart
than beside a horse
who understands without ever asking why.

How have horses healed you?

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and for me, this isn’t just a cause. It’s personal.

Years ago, I lost one of the most important people in my life to the demons in his head that I can only assume felt like too much with no way out. That loss cracked something open in me. The pain was unbearable, but it also lit a fire that has shaped every step of my career since.

That fire is what made me step into this work.

To be a voice in the dark when someone can’t find their own.

To be an ear when it all feels like too much to carry alone.

To be the kind of person I wish had been there just a little louder, just a little sooner.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve channeled my grief into purpose. I’ve sat with people on the edge. I’ve listened when they needed to pour it out. I’ve reminded them they matter, even when they couldn’t see it for themselves.

Mental health is not a luxury. It’s not a weakness. It’s survival.

And when someone says, “I don’t know how much longer I can do this,” I want them to hear back: “You don’t have to do this alone.”

If you’re struggling, please reach out. Call or text 988. Speak to a therapist. Message a friend. Do anything that keeps you here.

Because there’s more ahead for you than what’s behind you. I promise.

And if you’re someone who knows the pain of losing a loved one to su***de, my heart is with you. Keep talking. Keep showing up. You never know whose life you’re touching.

Let’s keep breaking the silence.

Let’s keep standing in the gap.

Let’s keep holding space until the light starts coming back in.

With the Cajun Army coming down to help out families who experienced the flooding, we’ve made the decision to post-pone our event at PPR. We want to make sure community focus is where it needs to be right now. ❤️

In December we plan on putting on our Santa Wonderland with our real life Santa. This will take time to get PPR back to the beautiful place it was before Milton came through like a wrecking ball.

What day is it again?

Hurricane Milton feels like it’s turned our world upside down for a little while.

Since October 10th, the cleanup and recovery process has been nonstop, everyone is exhausted and thankful for the cooler weather keeping storms at bay. I am beyond grateful to report that power has been restored, I want to give a HUGE thanks to the amazing linemen and tree crews who worked tirelessly to get us back up and running in record time.

We also had water pipes broken due to downed trees, but they’re repaired now, and water is finally flowing easily to the horses and house again! While we’ve proven we can carry water to the troughs and manage things, I now have a new found respect for plumbing. 😅

As a family, we’ve been working around the clock cleaning up tree limbs, fixing fences, and doing what we can with the resources we have. The horses are safe in their paddocks, but we still need to replace several fences and rebuild shelters. Our hay barn was completely destroyed, and the main barn needs a new roof.

Even though we’ve faced our challenges, there are many in our community dealing with even greater devastation. We’re doing what we can to offer help where it’s needed while also focusing on getting PPR back up and running.

I can’t express enough gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer support in any way they can. We truly have an incredible community, and your kindness is deeply appreciated.

Hurricane Milton has come and gone, and while we are safe and so are the horses, we have faced a significant amount of damage. Our home, barn, hay barn, fences, and horse shelters have been severely impacted. Most heartbreakingly, we lost three of our beloved alpacas Elijah, Pete and Butchy to the devastation.

But we are strong, and together as a family and a team, we are committed to rebuilding and recovering. We are beyond humbled by the outpouring of love and support we’ve received so far.

Many of you have asked how you can help during this time. If you would like to donate, our PayPal and Zelle are the most immediate ways to provide support, allowing us to start rebuilding the paddocks and barns to make them safe for the horses again. While we expect nothing, we appreciate all of the help that has already been offered and provided. ❤️

We are so grateful for your continued prayers and love. With your support, we are hopeful we can still hold the much-needed retreat for our veterans next month despite everything.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will get through this, together.

About Us

Peaceful Pastures Ranch was started by the founder, Jessica after years of taking in unwanted, abandoned, or neglected animals. Jessica is a clinical social worker with an emphasis in psychotherapy for trauma informed care and severe mental illness, working with all ages and abilities from childhood to adulthood.

Peaceful Pastures Ranch has become home to 12 horses that are being trained for the purpose of a therapy program for those with all abilities. There is also 2 rescue pot bellies (Shiloh & Daphne) that were bottle fed and raised here and a donkey named Waffles that watches over his herd and occasionally likes treats and to be loved.

The therapy program is designed to help fund the rescue, rehoming and rehabilitation of farm animals, while providing necessary therapy and education in the community on the benefits of animal assisted therapy and teach emotional regulation.
