As we celebrate all the special moments of 2025-2026—our inaugural year as Bay Area Service League—we also honor the legacy that began in 1988 and continues today. Despite our new name, our mission and values remain unchanged.

Together, we have learned and laughed as members, served numerous individuals through our philanthropic programs, and achieved remarkable success with our annual fundraising event, Just a Pretty Table. Our award-winning resale shop and dedicated grants committee have been instrumental in our accomplishments, and our marketing efforts have raised awareness—all while building on the foundation and traditions that have guided us for decades.

As Oprah Winfrey reminds us, "The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams." Our successes this year are a testament to the dreams, determination, and hard work that define Bay Area Service League.

Bay Area Service League recently concluded a successful prom and military ball season, providing attire for 131 girls and 44 boys from partner school districts in Harris and Galveston Counties.

The young women received prom and military ball attire, including ball gowns and coordinated accessories such as shoes, handbags, jewelry, and silk corsages. Many members of our organization, along with volunteers from our community partner, the Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter-Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., assisted during the dressing hours, ensuring that each participant received individualized support.

The 44 young men, our Cinderfellas, were provided with prom attire that included a suit, a dress shirt, a bow tie, a standard tie, shoes, socks, and a matching boutonniere. This attire was gifted to them, allowing recipients to use the suit and accessories for graduation ceremonies and job interviews.

Operation Cinderella, a philanthropic program of the Bay Area Service League, ensures students who may not have access to such attire, can experience these important rites of passage.

After 30 years of a remarkable career, Peter Wuenschel is retiring from Communities In Schools - Bay Area, leaving an impressive legacy. When Peter joined, the organization was Bridgeport – Communities In Schools, with Bay Area Service League as an active partner.

Under Peter’s leadership, what began at the then-Webster Intermediate and League City Intermediate campuses expanded and became Communities In Schools – Bay Area. The partnership with Bay Area Service League continued through Operation Support Our Schools, which supports CIS – Bay Area’s mission across campuses in Clear Creek ISD and Dickinson ISD.

We congratulate Peter on his retirement and recognize the energy, care, and compassion he has given the organization over the years. While he will be missed, we are confident that his leadership has prepared the team to continue building on the strong foundation he established.

Our Ready for Work philanthropic program volunteers are always eager to help individuals create a positive first impression during job interviews or on their first day at work.

We collaborate with various partners who refer people to us, and we assist them in selecting outfits from our shop. If they need a specific specialty item, we accompany them to a department store for the purchase.

In early May, Bay Area Service League partnered with Bay Area Service Teens for their Snack Attack Packs collaboration, assembling 1,050 meals as the final effort for the 2025-2026 season.

Teens and adults worked together to pack microwaveable meals, snacks, and drinks for local students who need extra nutrition outside school hours.

This year, Bay Area Service League ended the year with 213 members on our roster. We are truly grateful that these individuals have chosen to dedicate a portion of their volunteer time to our cause.

We achieve a remarkable amount through our service to the philanthropic program recipients, the diligent efforts of our resource development committees, and the initiatives of our marketing team. We also enjoy the opportunity to build personal relationships among our members through various social activities. One such event is our gathering after membership meetings, where those available select a restaurant to enjoy great conversation and connections. Following the April meeting, those who could attend came together for what we fondly refer to as the Lunch Bunch.

We invite you to join us and - https://bayareaserviceleague.org/get-involved/

We are deeply grateful to Cindy Senger-Lewis for her outstanding leadership in our first year as an independent nonprofit.

Cindy took on big challenges and led us with determination and grit. Her hard work helped us through a time of change, inspired confidence in our members, and showed us what servant leadership looks like.

The strong foundation and momentum we have today are thanks to Cindy’s vision, resilience, and dedication.

We truly appreciate everything she has done for Bay Area Service League and our community.

With the start of the new year, we welcome the 2026-2027 board of Bay Area Service League. These board members step into their roles after a year of growth and change, building on our strong beginnings and many years of service.

The progress made in 2025-2026 has opened new doors for our organization. Thanks to stronger governance and better community ties, this year’s board is ready to keep innovating, reach more people, and serve with fresh energy.

We look forward to another year of teamwork, vision, and positive impact as Bay Area Service League builds on its legacy and carries out its mission in new and meaningful ways.
