Joyce Pion and Carla Duncan invite you to the opening reception of their new exhibition: Our Creative Lives through Stitch & Paint.

Sunday, March 1, from 2-4 pm at The Monday Club.
Located at 37 South Maple, Webster Groves, MO 63119

If you need to see our show at a later date, then text Ann Shuck at 314-737-7571 the day before you’d like to visit the gallery. The Monday Club also has the distinction of being the oldest women’s organization in Missouri. We were fascinated to learn that it was established in 1887. Who knew!?!

Hello Followers!
Help us solve a STL mystery about a lost textile!
In 1983, the artist Sheila Hicks made a textile installation for the St. Louis office of Peat Marwick in downtown St. Louis (1010 Market St.). Commissioned by managing partner, John Robertson Jr., the piece was called "Mandalay." It was a large fabric collage of vertical strips, in pinks, purples, and oranges. The installation covered a 10' x 30' wall. Here's an image of the piece from a 1984 article written by guild member Marilyn Emerson Holtzer and published in Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot Magazine. Photo taken from article.

At some point, it's been said that this work was donated to a St. Louis Art school, though which one, we don't know. This is where the trail has gone cold. If anyone knows anything about "Mandalay," or what may have happened to it, please let us know!

NEW WORKSHOP | Stitched Self-Portrait Eyes Shut taught by Suzy Farren

There is absolutely nothing more fun than creating a self-portrait with your eyes shut. Your work will look like a Picasso every time. With your eyes shut, you also shut down your inner critic, offering you a wonderful opportunity for freedom of expression. In this brief class, you’ll pencil a few self-portraits on paper with your eyes shut. You can draw just your face or your entire body. Then you’ll select one image to stitch onto cloth. Choose from a variety of fabrics and threads and perhaps embellish with words or cloth scraps. The only dilemma will be determining which side of the stitched piece is the real you!| Visit webster-arts.org/workshops to register today.

January 22, 6:00 pm | $35/person
