It is with a heavy heart that we share some bittersweet news with you. After much consideration and reflection, we have made the difficult decision to conclude our efforts of establishing feeding sites. December is our last month in operation.

Despite our unwavering passion for the preservation of New World Vultures and our ecosystem, we unfortunately couldn't secure the backing needed to sustain our mission. We embarked on this journey with a dream of making a lasting impact, but sometimes external factors pose challenges beyond our control.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has been part of our community, supported our cause, and advocated for the incredible species we hold dear. Your passion and commitment have been the driving force behind our efforts, and we are immensely grateful for the shared moments and memories.

As we bid farewell, we encourage you to carry the torch forward. Continue advocating for New World Vultures and our precious ecosystem. 🦃🇺🇸 Did you know that the national bird of the United States almost ended up being the turkey? 🤔🦃 Back in the 18th century, when the Founding Fathers were considering the symbol of our great nation, Benjamin Franklin was a big advocate for the turkey.

Franklin argued that the turkey was a bird of courage and intelligence, and he believed it would be a more respectable choice than the bald eagle. In a letter to his daughter, he wrote, "For my own part, I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character. The turkey, on the other hand, is a much more respectable bird and withal a true original native of America."

Can you imagine Thanksgiving being even more patriotic with the turkey as our national bird? 🇺🇸🦃 While the bald eagle ultimately won the title, it's always fascinating to explore the historical alternatives!

I find this particularly interesting because the eagle is seen as a strong bird and it is revered throughout the U.S., yet the vultures aren't looked upon the same even though both are scavengers. 🤔

Hey friends! 🌍✨ Did you know about the ancient tradition of the Tower of Silence(sky burials)? 🏛️ It's a unique practice dating back 3000 years, where Zoroastrians placed their deceased loved ones on elevated towers to be exposed to the elements and vultures, as a way of returning the body to nature. 🦅🌿

However, the tradition is now facing a serious threat. The decline in vulture populations is impacting the Tower of Silence ritual. These majestic birds play a crucial role in the process by rapidly and efficiently disposing of the remains, preventing any harm to the environment. 🦅❤️

The disappearance of vultures is linked to various factors like habitat loss, poisoning, and changes in agricultural practices. The vulture population in India declined by 97% with the introduction of anti-inflammatory medication in cattle in the 1990s. It started poisoning the vultures with a syndrome known as “drooping neck” and the vulture population dramatically declined.😢 Without these essential scavengers, the delicate balance of this ancient tradition is at risk. It's not just a cultural concern but also an ecological one. Though we don't follow this practice here in the states, this is a cautionary tale. Losing vulture populations here in the New World would have a harsh impact on our society.
