Five Counties Salmonid Conservation Program - 5C The 5C Program is a conservation strategy whose goal is to contribute to the long-term recovery of salmon and steelhead in Northern California.

The Northwest California Resource Conservation & Development Council is looking for summer interns interested in the environmental, fisheries, hydrology, forestry, wildlife, or engineering studies. The position is seasonal, approximately 30-40 hours/week. Under general supervision of management and senior staff, skilled interns perform a wide variety of basic technical and field data collection associated with natural resource, forest management, sediment, road drainage, data entry, office and field support work; and does related work as required.

As part of a field survey party, intern operates a variety of natural resources surveying equipment and instruments including clinometers, total stations, range finders, transits, data collectors, levels, stadia rods, tapes, chains, field computers, GPS units, and similar equipment. They will assist staff in: developing and maintaining accurate field notes showing lines, angles, distances, benchmarks, mathematical calculations and other pertinent field survey data; tabulations queries, downloads and plot fields; developing and checking notes, drawings, and computations. They will also assist in performing construction staking and with the development of estimates, plans, and specifications for a variety of natural resources projects. They will also perform basic record keeping.

Hi everyone!
We'll be presenting the Sidney Gulch restoration designs at the Weaverville-Douglas City Parks & Recreation District meeting on Thursday, December 15, 2020. The meeting will be held via Zoom; Zoom link can be found on the 5C website (www.5counties.org). We invite you to participate in discussions about this project.

Restoration design: introduce new habitat areas for fish to spawn and hide, allow the stream to meander, increase vegetation near the stream, and reduce the floodplain in some areas. Project footprint is a ribbon centered around the current path of Sidney Gulch with some changes (e.g., above image). Major park features and overall uses will not be affected by proposed changes.

Northwest CA RC&D Council is seeking an Assistant Engineer. Full time position: 30-40 hrs/week. Salary DOE with a generous benefits package.
The Assistant Engineer works with the Engineer and project lead staff to develop designs to correct infrastructure and other physical problems to address restoration objectives and create community development opportunities and works with the larger project team and partners to help implement designs. The Assistant Engineer leads field crews in the collection of data that the Engineer needs to understand the site and characterize the problem; assists Engineer in developing design solutions, bid preparation, and other tasks necessary to prepare projects for implementation; takes an active role in the process of implementing designs; helps Engineer to address any emerging problems, deficiencies, or changing conditions; and assists in the reporting and monitoring of projects. All of this must be done in coordination with Engineer, project lead staff, landowners, and funders in order to create and maintain small-scale to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely, cost effective, and sustainable manner. Assistant Engineer works under the direction of the Engineer and may assist with supervising field crews and interns.
