Have you ever made pottery? Would you like to learn?
We would like to tell you about Reems Creek Pottery.

Reems Creek Pottery is a working pottery studio & retail sales in a quaint space. They currently have 4 ceramic artists.
They offer pottery private lessons and also small group workshops. All the pottery in their sales gallery is made by their studio artists. Your go to gal is the founder, Rachel Smith. She makes this all happen. They have been creating beautiful pottery for over 10 years.

Amelia Weber is the newest member of the pottery community. Amelia has studied fine arts in college and has been focusing on pottery for the past few years. Do you want to learn how to throw on a potter's wheel? Amelia will work with you in private lessons. Want to improve the skills you have? Amelia can take you to the next level.

Amelia will be around on October 4th during the popup to schedule lessons and talk with you.

Rachel Smith is a supporter of our Optimist Club and donated a beautiful bowl for our last auction in April. Thank you Rachel for all you do for the community.

Optimist Club of Weaverville-North Buncombe is celebrating 55 years of serving the North Buncombe area today.
We would like to say thank you to all those that are current members and all those that have paved the way to assist our local area. From the hundreds of fundraising to the countless hours of serving our community. We want to thank the community for the assistant in the past years to be there for the club.

Club History

The Weaverville-North Buncombe Optimist Club was chartered on September 29, 1970 by the Asheville Optimist Club and are chartered under the guidelines of Optimist International. Mr. McDevitt was the key person in getting our club started when he was the principal of North Buncombe High School.

The club is governed or operated by club officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) and the board of directors. All official business of the club is handled (or acted upon) by the Board of Directors. Activities of the club are carried out by committee chairs and all club members.

We are in Zone 1 of the North Carolina West District Optimist of Optimist International. Our club has been very active (and a leader) in the zone and district and the community since becoming a club. We have had several members to serve in leadership roles in the district (committee chairs and Lt. Governor). We have one past Governor in the club (Wayne Higgins, 1999-2000) and one North Carolina West District Optimist International Hall of Fame member (Wayne Higgins was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002). Our longest serving member is Charles Kiser. Our current president is Wayne Higgins.

We have two primary fund raising projects: Christmas trees sales and a dinner with raffle/auction.

One of the key projects that we do is the Scholarship Program. We provide thousands of dollars for scholarships to graduating seniors at North Buncombe. We have been doing this project for over 45 years.

Other projects/programs that we do or support include:

North Carolina Boys and Girls Home
Optimist International Foundation
Sponsoring a dinner for teachers of the year for NB district
Various level of support for the schools in the NB district

There are many other programs and activities that have sponsored over the years.

We are always looking for new members to continue helping the children of North Buncombe district. Come out to one of our meeting to see the work that is being done.

Last but not least, thank you to the spouses and their families. It takes a special person to have a teacher in the family. They put so much into their students and still come home and care for their families.

When you see them out and about, say thank you.
