This weekend marks two years since Hurricane Helene changed our landscape, our routines, and our lives overnight.
In the immediate aftermath—cut off from power, roads, and cell service—what stood out wasn’t just the scale of the damage, but the immediate response from neighbors. People showed up with chainsaws to clear blocked driveways, shared fresh water and hot meals, hauled supplies up washed-out roads, and checked in on folks who couldn’t get out. When traditional systems were down, our community became the safety net.
Two years later, recovery is still an ongoing journey for many. The scars on the land and the memories of those weeks remain, but so does the undeniable proof of what we can accomplish when we show up for one another without hesitation.
Holding space today for everything that was lost, and carrying deep gratitude for every neighbor, volunteer, and friend who helped carry us through.
