Laid to rest in Historic Greenwood Cemetery is Jacob Shenck Davis, born 1843 in Pennsylvania..Union veteran, cabinet maker, and early Weatherford settler…Jacob was raised with a deep respect for duty, honesty, and the value of hard work… In 1862 at age 19, he answered the union‘s call to service until 1865, where he fought through harsh winters, long campaigns and daily hardships.Jacob returned home and married in 1874. And in time,he and his wife and children came to Texas settling in Weatherford, a town with much promise. He brought his skills, tools, and determination, and found steady work, building homes, churches and new beginnings.
Though some found it notable that a union veteran chose to settle among so many former Confederates, Jacob believed that once the fighting was done, a man’s character mattered far more than the color of his uniform. In Parker County, he found neighbors, friends, and a place to belong. He passed in 1904, long enough to see his grown children and grandchildren playing in the Texas dust… He was remembered as a soldier, craftsman, husband, father and a neighbor, and the life that he built after the war was over.
🇺🇸 Kyle Wagner portrayed Jacob Shenck Davis.
