Please consider doing this. Long qt can cause unexpected death!

Madison McCarthy, age 5, asked to be excused from lunch to use the restroom at school. She was found unresponsive in the restroom. She reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest from Long QT Syndrome. No one recognized the severity of her condition. Long QT Syndrome, along with other potential cardiac issues, often can be detected in an EKG. That's why Cresson Volunteer Fire Department will provide free screening EKG's to any kids whose parents want them this Saturday, May 2. Weatherford Fire Rescue's Fire Prevention Clowns bring fun, laughter, and super-important fire safety lessons to kids at local schools. This year for the first time we want to present our show to our local homeschool families as well! If your family would like to join in, please respond to this post so that we can gauge interest and find a location for the show! We are looking at the first or second week of November, so let us know!

Big thanks to Summer Napier and Healing Hands Healthcare for donating TWO brand-new Avive AEDs to your Weatherford Police Department!

These life-saving devices help us hit the ground running (literally) when emergencies strike. As part of the Parker County Hospital District’s “4-Minute Community” initiative, we’re working to make sure no one waits more than four minutes for CPR or defibrillation.

Since we’re often first on scene, having AEDs in our units means faster care, better outcomes, and more lives saved. 🙌

We’re proud to be part of this initiative — and grateful to our amazing community partners who help keep Weatherford strong, safe, and maybe just a little bit competitive about horsepower. 😉

JASON HAYES NAMED WEATHERFORD CHIEF OF POLICE

The City of Weatherford is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Hayes as Chief of the Weatherford Police Department, effective immediately. Chief Hayes was selected following a comprehensive and competitive selection process that drew candidates from across the nation. His appointment comes after serving as Interim Chief since December 2024.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Tarleton State University. In addition, he is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and holds a Master Peace Officer License.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Chief Hayes has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to public safety and community service. His honors include Rookie of the Year, Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and the City Manager’s Award for Excellence.

“Chief Hayes has consistently demonstrated exemplary service and leadership within our department, and I have every confidence in his ability to continue to lead the organization with professionalism, integrity, and commitment,” said City Manager James Hotopp.

🚨 NEW CHAPTER, NEW PAGE! 🚨

Y’all, we’ve got a story sweeter than a cherry on top. 🍒 The Malt Shop—our burger-flippin’, fry-dippin’, shake-slingin’ slice of the 1950s—was at risk of closing for good. But just like in the movies, some hometown heroes stepped in to save the day, and now it’s time for a fresh start!

Since no one has access to the old page, this is our NEW official page—so be sure to follow along for updates, nostalgia, and (of course) all the burgers and shakes you can handle!

A little history for ya: The Malt Shop was originally built in the ‘50s by two brothers who gifted it to their wives before heading off to serve our country. 🇺🇸 It’s been a Weatherford staple ever since, and now it’s getting a well-deserved facelift!

Here’s the plan, daddy-o:
✅ Normal hours are still rollin’
✅ Evening & Sunday hours coming back soon!
✅ Former owner staying on as GM to keep things true to tradition
✅ We need the community’s help!

We’re on the lookout for painters 🎨, siding pros 🏠, electricians 💡, asphalt crews 🚧, tree donors 🌳, and table sponsors to help restore this hometown treasure. Sponsors will get two years of branding at The Malt Shop as a thank-you!

So let’s bring this place back to life, Weatherford! If you’re in, reach out and let’s make some magic happen. 🍔🥤

📢 Tag your friends, share the news, and be sure to follow this page so you don’t miss a thing!
