HELP NEEDED: “Prost!”

Looking for bier steins anybody wants to donate to Connect Club (formerly Connect Camp for Adults with Dementia) for our Oktoberfest this Thursday!

They don’t need to be the real deal-or maybe for ‘show & tell!’ But would love to serve their drinks that day in any kind of stein to make it more authentic, fun & bring back some memories! We will keep them and use them each year for our themed day!

Getting ready for our Olympic Games Challenge Course yesterday…. How many sports outfits can you wear?!?! lol!

I apologize for lack of pictures as there were many gold medal moments from the ‘Gran Torino Track’, the ‘Turkey Shoot’, ‘Puzzle Corner’, ‘Tecnology Round Up’, ‘Miracle On Ice’, ‘Funnel Pong’ and more!

We also welcomed new Club Members & Volunteers! And we are especially happy to welcome back John (see earlier post) from his sojourn! Jimmy B had great jokes as usual and James Ralph (another Jimmy) serenaded the birthdays with the birthday song -and more- on his harmonica!

Dear friends!
We are very happy to announce that John is back home! Thank you Jesus! He has been a joy to our club days and he even attended our Saddle Up & Spur Support Benefit visiting people in his usual joyful way! We hope this situation has not affected him too much. If there is one thing that engaging with community that is so vital is the awareness that it lends more people in the community. God bless John, Kalee, B and all John's family.

UPDATE 9:00 AM!
JOHN WAS FOUND SAFE THIS MORNING. Emergency! Please everyone in western lakes- check your homes inside and out for my father who has dementia and has been missing since 10:08 A.M. this morning 9/12/2026 he could have entered someone’s home to escape the extreme heat. Please check your barns/sheds/ponds/ring doorbell cameras/trail cams etc. he is harmless and would never hurt a fly. Everyone please check your own properties!!! Last seen wearing this same hat and shirt with light grey sweat pants and black tennis shoes. He doesn’t speak well and more than likely won’t respond to verbal commands. Please call 911 1st as he will most likely need medical attention! My number is 8179660974 (kalee) or Earl @ 8175033572

Thanks to EVERYONE that made Saddle Up & Spur Support an incredible success! When you have a third more people show than expected, a blessing from Father Mariya James, families sharing stories, fabulous silent auction items and delicious food...good things happen!

Already we've added one more Connect Club member, two more volunteers, two more scheduled lunch sponsors and lots more to come! The residual effect of this 'build awareness event' IS dynamic!

So many responses and I just wanted to share this one from a spouse that really touched my heart. I met them both when I bartended at the Friends of VFW Post No. 4746 R.D. NELSON MEMORIAL in Weatherford. Bob could not make the event, but Sally will always stay in our hearts! Below is his message and some pictures.

“Saddle Up & Spur Support” was a grand success!!! Thank you to the community for packing the house, sharing stories, visiting with each other, enjoying Zeno’s hospitality and gifting yourselves with the terrific silent auction items!

Connect Camp for Adults with Dementia has officially been rebranded as Connect Club for Families Living with Dementia. Thanks to Tom White for the artwork expertise and guidance! There are so many people to thank that made this a success. But the real success is seen in the faces and moments of joy with members and families. They are our mission!

My cousin's husband just experienced cardiac arrest in their home. By the grace of God, she HAPPEN to go down to the basement to tell him something and he collapsed in front of her. She gave life-saving support till EMS arrived. He survived. He is 64 and she is 60.

Like dementia, cardiac arrests are happening at younger ages due largely to lower healthy physical activity and nutritional choices. Another fun day at Connect Camp for Adults with Dementia! Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽was the theme to share experiences, learn ‘new’ things, enjoy and dance with music, eat delicious Mexican food and engage in activities promoting physical movement and dexterity.

Outside of this program, there is another option for us. We all can learn what we can do to mitigate the problem of dementia in ourselves!!! GHECK THIS OUT!👇

‼️New research is revealing a powerful connection between metabolic health and brain health. Some scientists now refer to Alzheimer’s disease as “Type 3 diabetes” because the brain can develop insulin resistance, making it harder for brain cells to use glucose for energy.

Studies are showing that:

• Blood sugar spikes and chronic inflammation may increase dementia risk

• Insulin resistance may begin in the brain years before memory symptoms appear

• Exercise, healthy nutrition, sleep, stress management, and metabolic health may help protect cognitive function
