Cyanobacteria Toxins in Humans and Animals: Explained

Learn more about cyanobacteria toxins and their impacts on human and animal health during this informative presentation by Erik Swenson, MD, Professor of Medicine at Dartmouth College. The presentation will take place on Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 PM at the Moultonborough Library.

Ever stumbled across what looks like a crop circle... underwater? 👽🌊

Don't worry—aliens aren't visiting your lake. What you're seeing is actually a bass nest! 🎣

Male bass create these neat, circular nests by fanning away sediment with their tails to expose a clean spot for eggs. After the female lays her eggs, dad sticks around to guard the nest and protect the next generation of fish.

So if you spot one of these mysterious circles while you're out on the water, you've found a fish nursery—not evidence of an underwater UFO landing! 🚤💙

Spiny water flea may be tiny, but preventing its spread takes a community effort! 🎣🛥️

Our Conservation Program Coordinator, Hannah, recently visited local marinas and bait shops to share updated spiny water flea outreach materials with boaters and anglers. From Irwin Marine to Fish Tails Bait & Tackle and Paugus Bay Marina, every stop enthusiastically stocked our brochures to help educate customers about stopping the spread of this invasive species.

A huge thank you to these local businesses for partnering with us to protect New Hampshire's lakes. Together, we're making sure more people know how a few simple steps can help keep invasive species from moving from lake to lake. 💙🌊
