Yesterday we had the opportunity to meet with the amazing and talented Neuro surgeons that work at United Hospital in St. Paul. A few years ago we made a grant of over $10 M to United to endow a Chair in Neurosurgery and to build a dedicated ICU for neurology patients. Allina CEO Penny Wheeler was there and we heard from 4 Neurosurgeons about their areas of specialty and how they provide care to their patients. From triage to recovery we learned about how they are saving and improving the lives of stroke patients. With the advent of telehealth they are also able to advise physicians and clinics across the state and help guide the care of those who aren't lucky enough to live in the Twin Cities. Let me just tell you that if you know of anyone having a stroke or someone who has a blood clot or aneurism, you MUST go to United Hospital in St. Paul. They have one of the most renown cranial vascular surgeons in the Midwest working there and he the best at what he does (Dr. Nussbaum).

I have said it before and I will say it again, I have the greatest job in the world and I am so very grateful for how we are able to help others through our philanthropy.

The Bentson Scholars at the University of Minnesota kicked-off the 2014/2015 school year with a picnic at Eastcliff, the home of President Eric Kaler and Karen Kaler. The annual event provides a wonderful opportunity for incoming freshmen to connect to their fellow Bentson Scholars and allows them to meet upper classmates who are part of the Bentson Scholar community. Go Gophers and we wish our scholars a successful academic year.

Nice story about the shortage of nurses and the grant to the U of M's School of Nursing from the Bentson Foundation.

Highly trained nurses are seen as a potentially cost-effective way to extend routine medical care to underserved patients. Nurses with doctoral degrees are trained to diagnose and treat conditions, prescribe drugs, and even lead a primary care practice with some physician oversight.

A Twin Cities foundation has chosen to donate $10 million to the University of Minnesota. It is specifically for the School of Nursing's scholarships for a certain type of degree: Doctor of Nursing Practice.

The Bentson Foundation today announced a $10 Million gift to the University of Minnesota, School of Nursing. The gift will be used for scholarships for students seeking a DNP, (Doctorate of Nursing Practice) and will result in 500 additional DNP graduates over the next 10 years. This is the largest scholarship gift for nursing in the nation.
