Trailer load for this weekend’s campout is tonight at 6pm. The best thing you can do to be prepared for any campout is to be prepared for the weather. As we transition from autumn to winter, let’s review how to plan for colder weather!

Please check the forecast and pack what you will need to stay warm while outside. While 50° may not sound cold, it can feel quite chilly when you stay outside in it all day. Remember, there is no bad weather - only bad clothing.

Troop 283 Tips for Cold Weather:
1. Bring Layers! Use the Three Ws:
a) Wicking- draws moisture away from the skin. Base layers, long johns, and athletic wear are great options.
b) Warmth - insulates: fleeces, flannels, Sherpa - all great choices. Synthetic materials recommended (cotton is NOT a great choice).
c) Waterproof/Windproof - protects and keeps you dry: a raincoat, waterproof winter coat, snow pants, etc.
2) Wear a hat! Those green Troop 283 beanies look great with every outfit!
3) Warm toes are everything! Wool socks and waterproof boots/shoes will keep those little piggies toasty!

Here’s the bright side - we have a posh cabin, so you won’t need that winter sleeping bag!

This is the one you’ve been waiting for: our annual Thanksgiving Campout at Camp Stearns will be Nov. 21-23. We will be staying in warm, comfortable Tonkawa Lodge in epic style. The Destructive Oreos will be leading us through the First Aid Merit Badge and cooking up a fabulous Thanksgiving feast for Saturday’s dinner. If staying at a 5-star hotel is your idea of camping, this is the campout for you!

This is also one of our recruiting events. Have a friend or neighbor interested in finding out what Scouts is all about? Bring them along! Have a younger sibling or know an Arrow of Light Scout looking for a Troop to attend next year? This is a great campout for them to see us shine!

If you plan to complete the First Aid requirements being offered at the camp out please bring a COMPLETED First Aid kit with you. A list of First Aid Kit items can be found in your Scout Handbook.
