After losing her two sisters to breast cancer, founder Barbara Hensley became painfully aware of the challenges faced by under-served women experiencing breast cancer. In addition to her sisters, brave and determined women inspired Barbara to embark on the important mission of Hope Chest for Breast Cancer®. Women like Nancy who Barbara met while she was accompanying her sister Patsy to the hospita

l for one of her chemotherapy treatments. Nancy’s three children sat at her feet during treatment because she could not afford childcare. The combined six year struggle of her sisters and situations like Nancy’s were devastating to Barbara – so she did something. In 2001, Barbara resigned her corporate executive position and founded the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation.

Each grant represents hope and relief, two elements that are crucial in fighting again breast cancer. The grants help to pay the rent or mortgage. They cover car payments, gas cards, utility bills, groceries, and childcare costs.

Your healthcare team is a group of healthcare providers who work together to make sure you get the best treatment.

Radiologist: Uses medical equipment that can look inside the body and take pictures (scans).

Surgeon -Performs the biopsy procedure and will operate to remove the tumor and any cancer cells that are in the body; often speaks with the oncologists and radiologists before surgery.

Pathologist -Studies body fluids and tissues and helps the primary care doctor make a diagnosis.

Oncology - Recommends treatment options based on the tests and scans, and prescribe therapy.

Nurse Navigator: Gives medications and makes sure therapy is adjusted and/or you get other medications when needed.
