Mark Mease has dedicated more than two decades to protecting and serving the people of Western North Carolina. With over 24 years of law enforcement experience, he currently serves as a narcotics investigator with the Cherokee Indian Police Department, where he has built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and results-driven policing.
Throughout his career, Mark has developed extensive expertise in narcotics investigations, including specialized training through the DEA in evidence collection, case development, and prosecutorial preparation. His work ensures that cases are built to the highest legal standards, helping bring offenders to justice while safeguarding the community's rights.
Mark’s commitment to public safety goes beyond enforcement. He has received advanced training in community-oriented policing, emphasizing trust, transparency, and strong relationships between law enforcement and the citizens they serve. He also brings specialized experience in clandestine drug lab investigations and has completed leadership and management training focused on departmental operations, officer development, and strategic resource allocation.
Understanding that crime does not stop at jurisdictional lines, Mark has worked closely with multiple agencies across Haywood County. As a member of a multi-agency drug unit formed in partnership with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments, he has collaborated to combat drug trafficking and strengthen regional enforcement efforts.
Mark’s vision for the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office is rooted in transparency, accountability, and proactive leadership. He believes every resident deserves to feel safe and heard, and he is committed to building a department that reflects those values through open communication, community engagement, and measurable results.
Mark is passionate about strengthening the community through outreach and prevention. His plans include revitalizing youth programs, supporting Neighborhood Watch initiatives, and fostering partnerships with schools, families, and local organizations. He also aims to enhance emergency preparedness by working alongside fire, EMS, and search-and-rescue teams to develop a coordinated, county-wide response to critical incidents.
