We are delighted to welcome Ben Lovejoy and Weogo Reed from Pigeon River Bikes as our new neighbors. Their expertise in bike maintenance, safety, and skill development for riders of all ages will undoubtedly benefit our community. Become a Community Bike Mechanic (No Experience Needed!)

About the Opportunity: Have you ever wanted to know exactly how a bicycle works? Do you love working with your hands and giving back to your community?

Pigeon River Bikes is looking for volunteer mechanics to join our team in Haywood County.

We provide the tools, the bikes, and the training. You provide the enthusiasm and impact in our community!

What You’ll Learn:
How to perform safety inspections and "ABC" checks (Air, Brakes, Chain).
The art of tuning derailleurs, adjusting brakes, and the full service skill-sets of a bike mechanic.
How to refurbish donated bikes to get them back on the road for neighbors in need.
Shop organization, tool maintenance, and running a community nonprofit bikeshop.
Who You Are:
You are curious, patient, mechanically inclined, and love to solve puzzles.
You want to help make cycling accessible for everyone in Haywood County.
No prior mechanical experience is required—just a willingness to get your hands a little greasy!
Impact-oriented. We do this work to serve everyone, especially the underprivileged people in Haywood County!
The Details: This is currently a volunteer position. Most of our shop hours take place on Saturdays and Tuesdays, currently at our shop behind the Folkmoot building in Waynesville, with occasional pop-up service events in Canton and across Haywood County.

🚲 Gear Up for Mama T’s Summer Celebration!

Pigeon River Bikes is thrilled to be part of this year’s Mama T's festivities in Canton.

We’re bringing a whole lot of two-wheeled fun for the family!

Stop by our tent to: 🎨 Color your own custom PRB sticker (we’ve got all the supplies!). 🛑 Grab safety handouts and "rules-of-the-road" info. 🚲 See our bikes and learn how we’re working to support the Canton community.

Hands-On Bike Skills Course! We are partnering with volunteers from North Canton Elementary School and Canton 1st Baptist Church to help kids ages 6–12 sharpen their riding skills.

How to participate: 1️⃣ Bring Your Gear: Children must have their own bike and helmet. 2️⃣ Check-In: Parents/guardians check in with us at the PRB tent by 10:45am! 3️⃣ Head Out: Our volunteers will guide the group across Main Street to the course. 4️⃣ Start Time: The skills course kicks off at 11:00 AM!
