Today, the WNC Alliance team is wearing purple to raise awareness about domestic violence and show our support for survivors. Even our four-legged team members, Metra, Picasso, and Neely, joined us!

Wearing purple is one simple way to start a conversation, show survivors they are not alone, and stand together against domestic violence.

We are proud to wear purple today and grateful to everyone across Western North Carolina who works alongside us to support survivors and build safer communities.

We're proud to have had WNC Alliance's clinician - Lynn Carlson, advocate - Sophia Lasker, and therapy dog - Mavis, represented at yesterday’s REACH of Haywood County Women of Vision Luncheon & Fashion Show.

Women of Vision celebrates women making a difference in our community while raising critical funds to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and elder abuse.

We are grateful for opportunities to show up alongside our community partners and support our shared commitment to survivors across Western North Carolina.

Congratulations to REACH of Haywood County Inc. on 40 years of serving our community, and to all of this year’s Women of Vision honorees. We were honored to be part of such a special day.

We were grateful to welcome The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and members of the Fund for Haywood County Advisory Board to WNC Alliance!

Their support helps us continue providing advocacy, mental health services, outreach, and training across the seven far western counties of North Carolina. We especially appreciated the opportunity to share more about our work with children and youth impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault and the partnerships that make this work possible.

Thank you to The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, the Fund for Haywood County, and the Human Services Grant Program for investing in survivors, families, and communities across our region. Millie and Oliver appreciate your support as well!

Board Members Scott Latell and Scott McLeod, Fund for Haywood County Advisory Board Members Joan Kennedy (with Millie) and Mike Pass, and Senior Program Officer Virginia Dollar visited the Thirtieth Judicial District Alliance in Waynesville. The Alliance collaborates with community partners across 7 WNC counties to strengthen services and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. It provides outreach, advocacy, mental health, and training services and offers specialized, evidence-based support for children and youth affected by domestic violence and sexual assault through licensed clinicians trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, expressive arts and play therapy, and animal-assisted interventions. Funding from The Fund for Haywood County and the Human Services Grant Program helped support these critical services. Also pictured are Executive Director Crystal Stover, Victim Advocate Sophia Lasker, Veteran Advocate Michael Ferguson and Therapist Jess Agostini (with Oliver).

Our Veteran Advocate, Michael Ferguson, spent yesterday at the VA Disability Claims Clinic at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort and he’s back again today!

This two-day event is bringing veterans and their families together with help for disability claims, benefits questions, health care, mental health support, caregiver resources, and more.

Michael has been busy connecting with veterans and community partners and sharing information about WNC Alliance’s veteran advocacy, crisis support, and resources available across far Western North Carolina.

If you’re attending today, stop by the WNC Alliance table and say hello. WNC Alliance’s event setup came with an impressive backdrop. You can't miss it!

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and has been recognized as a federal holiday since 2021. Pride Month is observed each June to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities and honor the legacy of the 1969 Stonewall uprising. We enjoyed celebrating both last Friday at Sylva Pride's Juneteenth & Pride Jubilee!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared a conversation, picked up resources, gave therapy dog-in-training Metra a friendly pat, or simply spent time celebrating community with us. We are grateful for opportunities to support and stand alongside all members of our seven-county region.

Our four-legged team members were proud to participate in the Elder Abuse Awareness Walk in Waynesville.

By coming together as a community, we can raise awareness to help prevent abuse, show support for survivors, and help to ensure older adults are treated with the dignity, respect, and care they deserve.

A special thank you to everyone who organized the event, joined the walk, shared resources, and helped shine a light on this important issue. Our therapy dogs loved meeting participants and reminding everyone that sometimes support comes with four paws and a wagging tail.
